The Service Provider Market
Service providers are organizations that provide
services such as security solutions and Internet
subscription to other businesses and end users.
For Trend Micro, a service provider business is:
an organization that uses Trend Micro products
to deliver security services to third parties;
these third parties can be residential (ISP) or
corporations (ASP, MSP, etc.)
an organization that manages the software as
part of a service, 24x7
Note that software can be hosted by Trend Micro,
reside at the service provider’s site, or installed at the
customer’s premises.
Service Provider Market Growth
Trend Micro anticipates steady growth and
opportunities in the service provider market.
This is conrmed by studies indicating that the
worldwide security services market was valued at
US$20.1 billion in 2007, and is expected to increase
at a slower compound annual growth rate of 13.5%
over the 2008–2012 period, reaching US$44.1 billion
by 2012.
Although security spending stayed mostly at in
2009, Forrester estimates that the managed services
market grew by roughly 8%.

Why Partner with Trend Micro?
Reliability
A solution needs to be reliable, dependable, and
consistent so you can provide valuable service to
your customers. To illustrate how much impact a
service hiccup can have: One minute of email
downtime for a corporate customer may not be
much of an issue; for a large service provider, it
could mean millions of messages not delivered!
Scalability
Because your installations tend to be on a much
larger scale, you must consider multiple factors,
such as load balancing, failover, and redundancy
measures to ensure uptime and continuity. The
solutions you need require some degree of
customization and installation planning, even
exibility in payment schemes.
Network Fit
You may be hosting/administering/owning the
solutions that you provide to customers. Because
you may be serving far more customers than the
biggest Very Large Enterprise will ever have, the
solutions require technical exibility to t into your
current infrastructure.
Easy Management
Since products and services are deployed in
different ways, central management and reporting
are very important. If you already use third-party
monitoring solutions, you should be able to use
these to monitor your customers’ products.
Revenue
Diversify your revenue stream by adding
sustainable security service revenue with
minimum nancial risk.
Flexibility
Offer your customers a exible security service
that will adapt to current and future needs.
Retention
Optimize your recurring revenue with 93%
retention observed from current Trend Micro
customers.
Aggregation
Ensure maximum margins with bulk licensing
purchase.
Pay-as-You-Go Option
Pay only the licenses you service whether your
customer base grows or declines monthly.
Service Provider Partner Benefits
Your customers expect reliable, robust, highly
scalable, and secure services that allow them to enjoy
a seamless exchange of information. They want
protection that is effective yet non-intrusive.
As a service provider, you need security services to:
Avoid business disruption
Keeping spam and malware out of your network
allows you to reclaim bandwidth for better
service to your customers.
Assure your customers of their Web safety
Protecting your customers against email, Web,
le, and blended threats reinforces your
reputation and exceeds your customers’
expectations.
Gain a competitive edge over rival companies
Packaging security as a complementary offering
to your main products indicates that you provide
more valuable service than your competitors do.
Add value to your core business and gain
additional revenue
Offering value-added security services to your
customers creates additional high-margin
revenue opportunities.

ISPs and telcos have to grapple with exponentially
growing and constantly evolving online threats. This
makes it imperative for you to offer effective solutions
that can protect end users from threats such as
malware, spyware, and spam. An infected user base
also translates to lower network quality and the risk of
getting blacklisted. Botnets are of particular concern
since these are often responsible for high spam
volumes.
These threats should be addressed by infrastructure
and endpoint solutions to sanitize email and protect
subscribers. Comprehensive protection is necessary
to suit all customer proles and solve customers’
main pain points, such as resource-hogging, intrusive,
and complex products.
