A full day sightseeing tour introducing to you the most attractive features of the capital. First you will visit the Heroes’ square and the Millennium Memorial erected to commemorate the thousandth anniversary of the founding of Hungary. Driving along the Andrássy Avenue the Opera House, built in Italian Neo-Renaissance style, comes into view. You will reach the administrative district where state institutions, banks and the Neo-Gothic Parliament are situated.The sightseeing tour continues on the Buda side. Going up to the Castle Hill, the group will stroll towards the buildings of the ancient Royal Palace, now home to various museums. The group will visit the Romanesque lookout tower, the Fishermen’s Bastion, one of the symbols of Budapest with its superb view over the city. Matthias Church, the wonderful 13th century coronation church is a sight that is also a must to see. Finally the group will visit the Gellért Hill and enjoy the panorama over the city from the Citadel. Transportation is by bus with an English and French speaking guide. Lunch in the Castle District area is included.

The Neo-Gothic Parliament on the Pest side bank of the Danube is not only the symbol of the Hungarian capital but is at the same time, one of the largest buildings in the world that serves as a parliament. Built in 1885-1904, the Parliament boasts beautiful interior halls, staircases and the cupola, the height of which is 96 meters, referring to the founding of the Hungarian State in 896. In 2000, the Coronation Regalia were moved to the Parliament and are still exhibited here.*Budapest’s largest church, the St. Stephen’s Basilica can hold up 8,500 people. It is dedicated to St. Stephen or István, the first Hungarian Christian King and was consecrated in 1905. King St. Stephen’s right hand, the Holy Right is kept here, and it is paraded by the faithful on 20 August. It received the title of Basilica Minor in 1938, the 900th anniversary of St. Stephen’s death.

The newly renovated three-level Central Market Hall is the largest of a network of market halls in Budapest. Its design was prepared in the planning office of Eiffel. There are more than 180 stores, displaying a huge variety of groceries, souvenir and folklore products, and of course the Hungaricums: salami, paprika, goose liver, sausages, Tokaj wine and apricot brandy. Here you can find anything you might want to take home from Hungary.Transportation is by bus with an English and French speaking guide. Lunch is included.*The Parliament reserves the right to cancel visits due to chamber meetings. Please make sure to have your passport with you!

Please note that the organisers reserve the right to modify the programme of the tours due to low enrolment.

The Gala Dinner will take place in the imposing and renowned Gundel Restaurant where you can find Hungarian traditional dishes based on original recipes, served in an exceptional ambiance. The restaurant is located close to the Heroes’ square and the Millennium Memorial which was erected to commemorate the thousandth anniversary of the founding of Hungary.

Transportation by bus from the Congress Venue to the Gala Dinner and back is provided.

An optional excursion to the Gödöllő Royal Palace with lunch will be arranged on Sunday.The 250-year-old Palace, built by the Grassalkovich family, is one of the largest palaces in the country and is a significant work of Hungarian Baroque architecture.The golden age of the building began in 1867 when the Palace was presented as a coronation gift to Emperor Francis Joseph I and Queen Elizabeth (also known as Sisi) for use as a residence. The royal family spent the spring and autumn hunting seasons here. The building has been restored to its former glory. The Palace was the venue of high-level meetings during the Hungarian EU presidency in 2011.
