Street Parking: Motorhomes & CampersWe are seeing more and more parked motorhomes, trailers, etc., throughout the neighborhood. We understand that residents may have traveling guests, or be loading up to travel themselves, but we ask that you please be courteous of your neighbors and adhere to the rules regarding parked motorhomes and trailers referenced below.

Article 9, Section 9.2 (i) of the Deed Restrictions that encumber your property states: “Any truck, bus, boat, boat trailer, trailer, mobile home, camp mobile, camper, recreational vehicles or any vehicle other than conventional automobile shall, if brought within the Property, be stored, placed or parked within the garage of the appropriate Estate Owner and concealed from view by other Estate Owners.”

If you are loading or unloading your motorhome and need it parked temporarily, that is acceptable, but it may not be parked overnight. These are large vehicles and can obscure and clutter the streets, creating a hazard for passing vehicles and pedestrians. Please be a good neighbor and be mindful of your fellow residents when planning these types of activities.

2018 Annual Assessment: NOW LATE The 2018 annual assessment is now considered late, as of February 1st.

Unpaid dues as of February 1st, will result in denied access to Castle Hills amenities (key-fob access to workout rooms and pools, banquet room rentals, tennis courts, etc.)

We now have the ability to accept online payments either via credit/debit card or ACH bank draft. Please see page 4 of this newsletter for more information on how to set up the payment. If you no longer have an invoice to obtain your “t” account number, you may email [email protected] to get this information. You will need to provide your name and address in the email request.

Payments may still be made by cash or check, checks are made payable to Castle Hills HOA.

Please make sure your checks are SIGNED!

Payments can be mailed to or dropped off at our main office at:2520 King Arthur Blvd., Suite 200Lewisville, TX 75056

Main Office hours are: Monday-Friday from 8AM-5PM. We are located in the Village Shops on the second floor of the building (above the dance studio).

Payments may also be dropped off at the community center at:2501 Queen Margaret Drive, Monday-Friday from 9AM-5PM & Saturday-Sunday from 11AM-6PM

When paying by check or cash, please include the top portion of your invoice, or put your account number (the “t” number on your invoice), and/or your Castle Hills address on your check to ensure it is applied correctly.

Returned ChecksThere have been a number of checks returned due to closed accounts or non-sufficient funds. When these situations occur, an automatic $15 charge will be added to the account. Please make sure when sending in a check, that it is tied to an open and or/good standing account. Non-payment of this charge will result in a balance on your account in which amenity access will be denied.

Exterior Holiday Decorations ReminderAll holiday decorations were to be removed from the exterior of the home by January 15th. If you still

have exterior holiday decorations out, you may be issued a violation letter.

Grande Communications: Basic Cable Receiver We have recently been informed by Grande that they have had to

go all digital this past year. This means, if you are using ONLY the

BASIC CABLE, you will need to obtain a small digital receiver from

Grande. They are providing these receivers FREE OF CHARGE at

Attention Castle Hills Pet OwnersIt is regularly observed that some dog owners are out walking their dog unleashed. Because of this there have been a few incidents of pets and people being injured, which is traumatic for the pet and their owner.

There are no “leash free” areas in Castle Hills. Dogs are to be leashed at all times when outside the gated area of their estate. There are no exceptions.

Some dog owners may think their dog would never run off or cause injury to another pet or person, but the reality is no command is a 100% guarantee of the dog’s behavior when not leashed. Even leashed, a dog can still get loose if the owner is caught off guard and the dog pulls the leash out of their hand, but at least the owner made an attempt to control the dog and may more easily be able to get the dog back under control.

Also, if your dog is not leashed, it could run off and get injured by a moving vehicle. If you have your dog unleashed and it goes after another pet, child, or adult, you as the dog owner may be held financially responsible for any injuries caused by your dog.

Please be a considerate and neighborly dog owner keeping Castle Hills a safe, clean, and quiet community that all residents expect and want it to be:1. Don’t leave your dog outside barking. If you are not at home you don’t know what

your dog may be doing that may be a nuisance to your neighbors.2. Pick-up after your pet (common areas and other residents' yards). Not picking up

after your pet just one time is not acceptable. If everyone did that there would be thousands of piles of feces throughout Castle Hills. *Please discard pet waste in YOUR trash receptacles, NOT in another resident’s trash receptacles!

3. Leash your dog at all times when not fenced in your backyard.

Irrigation System ReminderPlease be aware of the weather during the winter season in regards to your irrigation system. In the recent below freezing weather, several residents had not turned off their irrigation systems so sidewalks and streets iced over, creating safety hazards for vehicles and pedestrians that did not need to happen. Freeze sensors cannot be relied upon for these really cold days as an irrigation system control. You should be turning the system off for the duration of the below freezing temperatures. With it being winter time, having the irrigation system off and/or operating manually as needed should not have any negative impact on your lawn or landscape since the temperature is cooler and many plants/grasses are dormant.

Happy Valentine’s Day!February is the month we celebrate “Love”. Love means feeling affection for, adore, be devoted and to care for. We love our pets and that is why we want to provide them with the best care. A lot goes into giving our pets the best. Sometimes we overlook some of the simplest things we can do to show our pets our love. We have listed a few questions that are often overlooked that will help you in providing the love and care you want for your pets.

If you own cats:• Do you have one litter box per cat in your house? • Do you change out the litter box at least monthly (this means

dumping out all the litter, washing the container and putting in fresh litter)?

• Does your cat have toys to play with and do they get exercise?

If you own dogs:• Do you make sure that your canine friend gets plenty of

interaction with you (playing ball, going for a walk or just cuddling)?

• Does your dog have toys to play with to stimulate their mind and keep them from being bored?

For both cats and dogs:• Do you keep your cat/dog’s coat brushed and free from mats? • Do you keep their toe nails trimmed to prevent catching on

things or growing into their pads?• Do you take your cat/dog to the veterinarian for wellness

checks and to have their teeth and gums checked?• Have you educated yourself on vaccinations, nutrition and

your pet’s health issues? Do you take an active role in their health care?

• Do you feed your cat/dog the right food? Have you researched the food you feed to be sure you are making the right choice?

We know how much you love your pet and how they adore you. We want to help you keep your pet happy and healthy!

It is that time of year, and this year (2018) we are having a roller coaster ride with the freezing inclement weather. Our pets need us to be responsible and

help them with the change in temperatures and especially with these freezing temperatures we are experiencing.

For outside pets: Watch pets for hypothermia (lowering of body temperature). Add straw to doghouse for insulation. For outdoor cats, provide a snug, warm bed off the cold ground. Outdoor pets' water bowls can freeze. Outdoor dogs and cats need shelter out of the cold, wind and elements. Outdoor cats get into car engines for warmth. Knock on hood or honk horn before starting engines. Bring pets in if weather conditions are severe.

Antifreeze poisoning: Antifreeze smells good and taste great to pets. If you suspect antifreeze-poisoning, transport to vet immediately, do not wait for symptoms to appear. It will be too late.

For inside animals, add protective screens around fireplaces and

install carbon monoxide protectors. Keep the thermostat level; animals are sensitive to temperature changes. Regular brushing of the coat helps distribute natural oils to the skin. Inspect paws regularly for cracked pads, broken nails, or snow/ice damage.

Signs of frostbite include red or swollen areas of skin. Watch pet for hypothermia (lowering of body temperature).

Symptoms of hypothermia include:1. Altered consciousness2. Slow or absent pulse3. Shallow or infrequent respiration4. Reduced or absent heart sound5. Dilated pupils

Mild cases of hypothermia may be treated by:1. Drying the body surface if the animal is wet.2. Wrapping the animal in towels or blankets.3. Applying an external heat source (hot water bottle, hearting

pad, electric blanket). DO NOT APPLY DIRECTLY TO SKIN.4. Bathing the pet in warm water if the above methods are not

available.

Always seek medical attention from your veterinarian after your pet is stabilized!

Dear Friends,Happy February! We hope the first month of your new year has been a great one. We had a wonderful January welcoming many new families to our school community and celebrating our success in 2017. This is due to our wonderful school community of parents and guardians and our amazing staff!

We are so proud to have earned the following in 2017:Consumer’s Choice Award (5th year in a row)Best of Carrollton (9th year in a row)KRK Presidential Award (only awarded to top schools in the country; 9th year in a row)

The kids will celebrate February with lots of valentine fun this month as well as enjoying the winter curriculum. We are already preparing for open enrollment in our private kindergarten program. Most of the spots will be secured by current KRK students but a few may remain. Call us today to set up a private tour and conference about the needs of your child. Whether s/he has a summer birthday and you need a bridge year or you want a small classroom size with intentional instruction, KRK is the only choice.

Perhaps one of your New Year’s resolutions was to read more. What about your toddler? Even though they can’t formally read, they are building vocabulary and other skills to prepare them. We found these great tips for developing readers and even character values on www. parentingtoddlers.com:

Inculcate reading habits in your child by providing him with variety of books that stimulates the mind and body.While toddlers need not be formally taught to read, there are many different kinds of reading readiness activities you can provide around the house that will help encourage a book-positive

attitude in your child. Start them young and do it often. It's never too early to read with your child. Even though very young children may be too young to understand the content, they will enjoy the sounds of the words, your voice, and will be flooded with the richness of language.

It is important that you should yourself enjoy reading and let your child observe you engaged in reading activities of different kinds, so that he/she can see there's a purpose behind reading.

Engage your child in lots of different language activities, including frequent conversations and periods where you can share jokes, riddles, songs, poems, tongue twisters, and other verbal games and experiences. These activities help your child develop auditory discrimination, vocabulary, sensitivity to syntax, and other skills important to later reading success.

Don't "baby talk" with your child even though he/she is still a baby. This is not necessary as your child can learn the proper language when you speak to them like an adult. Spend time reading to your child. Never force a child to read if they aren't in the mood. You risk turning them off. Create warm, loving memories of reading together that will comfort and last a lifetime. Cuddle, hold your child on your lap or lie down in bed together as you read. Make it fun to keep their interest.

Choose your child books that have pictures with lots of color: big blocks of them for infants, more complex illustrations and storylines as they get older and chapter books with less pictures when they are ready. Start with one or two words per page and build up to easy readers. Illustrations should have plenty of things for the child to look at.

Board books: laminated pages with rounded corners are sturdiest; child books with spiral binding means the book can lay flat and pages turn easily. Vinyl bath books are great attention getters. Popular subjects for young readers are rhymes, animals, transportation, toys, body parts, everyday objects, babies and families.

Your child can enjoy a variety of books. It is good to get educational child books that promotes character building, imagination and creativity. Your child will learn what is good and bad behavior from stories as they are encouraged to ask questions and talk about a story. A story may be the jumping off point for great discussions. From here, you can point out the connections between the story and your children's own lives which is very important.

Stories are the key to raising morally sound children. Even in an age of computer games and electronic toys, you can't beat a good story--especially when offered by a caring adult -- for capturing a child's attention.

Nowadays, there are audio books and even personalized child story books that can feature your child as the *star* in the books. Choose your books wisely and your child will certainly enjoy reading them.

Ingredients2 cups all-purpose flour1/2 cup finely chopped

pecans2 cups (12 ounces)

semisweet chocolate chips

1/4 cup butter (no substitutes)

1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract1 package (13 ounces) milk chocolate kisses2 squares (1 ounce each) white baking chocolate1 teaspoon vegetable oil

Directions1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and pecans; set

aside. 2. In a microwave or saucepan, melt chocolate chips and

butter; stir until smooth. Stir in milk and vanilla until blended. Add to flour mixture; mix well.

3. When cool enough to handle, shape a tablespoonful of dough around each chocolate kiss. Place 1 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° for 7-9 minutes or until tops begin to crack. Cool on wire racks.

4. In a microwave or saucepan, heat white chocolate and oil; stir until smooth. Drizzle over cookies.
