TDX™ – The Total Driving eXperience.Merger of mind, body & machine.

It’s just like you told us it should be– five of the mostadvanced technologies brought together to createa Total Driving eXperience.

In addition to new features and driver controls, the MK5 places everything you love about the patented MKIV™ into a more intuitive format. Now the best electronics package in the industry is also the easiest to use.

Center wheel drive offers the tightest turning radius possible, as well as improved tracking and ease of driving over all other configurations.

This patent-pending automatic system ensuresthat everyday obstacles and thresholds arehandled – elegantly, for a smooth ride.

The most pervasive issue with more maneuver-able chairs is stability, but this patent-pendingtechnology helps ensure that the chair remains sta-ble, with the consumer in control.

The benefits of TT to switch drivers and those with marginal control have been proven, makingthese consumers more successful and efficient drivers.

The TDX™ power chair was engineered to avoid the compromising that canoccur when powered seating systems are combined with traditional powerbases. Thanks to the design of the TDX base, the addition of powered seatingis virtually invisible to the base. Turning radius, stability and performance allremain virtually the same as with a standard ASBA seat frame. Thecombination of center wheel drive and Stability Lock allows all seat depths andvent options to interface with one base length–which means no more shortand long bases, no more compromising.

MK5™ EX™ Controller

The MK5™ EX controller can accommodate multiple driver inputs including all

existing MKIV™ (5-pin) options. Must use the new MK5 display with switches.

MK5™ NX™-80 with SPJ™-80

The MK5™ NX-80 is a non-expandable controller which operates with an

SPJ-80 single drive joystick. Offering the same convenient Speed and Responsemenu as the MK5 EX controller, the NX-80 is intended for joystick drivers.

MK5™ TT-EX™ Controller

The MK5 TT-EX is the only power chair controller in the industry withTrueTrack. When used with the new Heavy-Duty GB™ motors, this controllercan sense wheel position, varying the power to each motor to help ensurestraightforward tracking, even over slopes and obstacles.

MK5™Laptop IVS Software

MK5 Laptop IVS Software allows you to download program information intoyour computer. When connected to the power wheelchair through your com-puter using the virtual service cable (part #1095204), you are able to view andmodify all programming on the chair, all drives at one time. In addition, you candownload the consumer’s drive profiles onto your computer. Therefore, you areable to experiment with new driver controls and programming modificationswhile still maintaining the original profile. When finished programming you canprint out hard copies of the programming settings and place in the consumer’sfile.

With the MK5 Laptop IVS Software, also available to download online, you canupdate a power wheelchair’s electronic software directly from your computerthrough flash programming. This is compatible for NX™-80, EX™, and TT-EX™

controllers. The latest Invacare MK5 software revision is now available to down-load on www.invacare.com through Invacare Pro.

More information and instructions are available on the Invacare website throughInvacare Pro.*

*Special Notice: Software updates should only be performed by properly trainedpersonnel with knowledge and understanding of the software and relatedInvacare® products. Novices should not perform updates.

New Simplified Programming Features

Speed and ResponseTo aid in the programming of driving parameters, the MK5

™ features an overallprogramming screen. After the opening screen is displayed, the SPEED andRESPONSE parameters will appear. Adjusting SPEED will simultaneously changethe values of forward speed, turning speed and reverse speed. AdjustingRESPONSE will simultaneously change the values of acceleration, braking, torque, turn acceleration, turn deceleration and turning speed.

Now adjusting the driving performance of a chair is as easy as using onescreen.

Turn Acceleration Same as MKIV™ “Sensitivity”– the time it takes to ramp up to turning speed.

Turn DecelerationThe time it takes to decelerate from a turn when the joystick is returned to neutral.

Axes Selection by DriveCan be set globally or individually in each drive to allow for customization ofthe directional control.

Fault Log DescriptionsDetailed messages permit easier troubleshooting.

Global/By DriveEnables all values listed in performance adjustments below torque tobecome global parameters; useful when calibrating the joystick or usingstandby functions. By drive is the default setting for the MK5.

Valuable Diagnostic ToolsCurrent Status has been added to the MK5 with a quick summary of the following items:• Joystick Type• % Joystick Throw Achieved • Other Options found on the Daisy Chain Network• Software Version• Battery Voltage• Load Test Results• Drive Lockout Function as necessary• Emergency Stop (Reset) Function• Left and Right Percentage Current Rollback as read by Temperature Sensor• Ready to Drive (Yes / Error Code)• Odometer

Now summarizing the status and setup of a chair is simplified–just start withCurrent Status.

New Programming Features

Standby with Mode SelectionThe user can program the controller to respond to the operating mode selections without using the emergencystop (reset) switch while the standby mode is active. In this mode, the controller will select a new mode (drive, drive selection or ECU selection) when the joystick is moved. The mode will be active when the joystick isreturned to neutral.

Forward Command – Return to drivingRight Command – Selects {Drive Select}

(If remote select is not turned on, the right command will have no function)Left Command – Selects powered seating control or ECU mode

Second level of left command will sequence through seat control or through ECU modes if more thanone is turned on

Special Cases: The user will have to sequence through programmed activities only. For example, if TRCM is theonly thing on, it is the only option with the left command. Also, if only one ECU is active, selecting ECU willenable the ECU and bypass the ECU selection mode.

MK5™ Programming HighlightsMK5 electronics offers the most customizable power chair controls available.

• No driving: When activated, the no-driving modeallows full dedication to an alternative activity (e.g.,communication, computer access) with no fear ofmoving the chair

• Power level: For indoor drive programs, powerlevel can be reduced for beginning or marginal driv-ers.This ensures that if the chair hits an obstruc-tion, it will simply stop

• Attendant options: There are four attendantoptions for the MK5 electronics: PACM5 propor-tional attendant control, 1812 dual proportionaljoystick, ASL504 emergency remote stop and theASL510 wireless digital attendant control

• Joystick throw: Allows proportional joysticks tocustomize the displacement for full speedrange–ideal for those with limited strength orrange

• Axes selection by drive: Directions of the driver’s control can be changed, while leaving the atten-dant’s in the standard configuration

• Standby: Allows access to all activities using thesame switch system as driving, with no need for areset switch

• 2-switch mode: When using a 3-switch system likethe ASL head array, the Tarsys® powered seatingsystems can be easily interfaced to work throughthe driver control. With 2-switch mode, actuatorfunctions can be stored in both the left and rightswitch locations, reducing the number of switchhits by half in order to operate the powered seat-ing system

• Drive lockout by drive: To balance the need forconsumer safeguards with the need for flexibleprogramming, the MK5 allows the degree of lock-out to be set per drive. If a greater angle of tilt orrecline is needed for certain driving maneuvers(e.g., entering a van), it can be stored in amatched driving program

• Torque: To ensure that the chair moves when aswitch or joystick is activated, the torque parame-ter can be adjusted upwards. High torque with aslow-speed driving program permits immediateaccess to maximum motor power–a critical ele-ment in switch driving

Battery AccessThe removable front door provides easy access to the chair’s batteries, whichmount onto a sliding tray for easier loading and diagnostic access. Separateharnesses allow for clear, easy wiring and securing of the batteries. Only batteries with the terminal configuration shown above will interface with theTDX™. Sealed gel-cell batteries are highly recommended.
