Whether it’s family dynamics, the pressure of shopping and cooking, the loss of someone close, or all of the above, feeling blue during the holidays is common and understandable. Here are a few tips for managing these feelings: 1. Be compassionate with yourself. Allow yourself to feel what you feel. We can be our own worst critic, yet criticizing ourselves never really helps. Know that it is understandable to feel down, stressed or anxious during the holidays. 2. Make time for yourself. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with planning, schedule some time for you to take a break. Make it a holiday present to yourself! 3. Prioritize what you need to do and keep your expectations practical when thinking about how much you can do in any given day. 4. Strengthen the positive connections you have. Spend time with the people you enjoy – people who can recharge you and with whom you can have fun. 5. Stay active. Keep your exercise routine or simply go for a walk regularly. Exercise and physical movement help us manage stress and its effects on the body, mind and soul. 6. Limit or avoid alcohol. Alcohol is a depressant and will make stress feel worse. 7. Take time to grieve or mourn any losses you may be feeling. We all grieve differently, so do what you feel you need to do. Remember to Get Your Flu Shot!Remember to Get Your Flu Shot! The flu is a serious disease. According to the Centers for Disease Con-trol (CDC) it is especially serious for seniors. The CDC reports that during recent flu seasons, between 80 and 90 percent of flu-related deaths oc-curred in people 65 and older.

Flu season in the United States can begin as early as October and last as late as May. The best way to reduce your risk of getting the flu and spreading it to others is by getting a flu vaccine.

WellStar makes it easy with Well Screens. Flu shots are $29; Medicare Part B is accepted.
