The Dopplex® Assist series is a compact,

portable, easy to use vascular tool which

can undertake most physiological

measurements by the bedside, in a clinic

or hospital.

Now seen as the product of choice by

many clinicians worldwide, the Dopplex®

Assist series is more robust and easier to

use.

Rapid, bi-lateral measurements can be

taken and stored on the unit or

transferred to the Dopplex® AR2 software

for archiving and reporting. Traces can

then be emailed to a central location for

specialist review or networked around a

hospital.

This makes the Dopplex® Assist series a

comprehensive easy to use system for

vascular measurements in primary and

secondary care settings and is ideal for

leg ulcer assessment, diabetic foot

screening, detection of peripheral arterial

disease and venous assessment.

NEW –ExtendedApplicationsAnkle and Toe Pressure Index(ABPI / TBPI)

One of the latest applications is a

dedicated ABPI/TBPI function. This

allows the rapid measurement of

brachial and pedal systolic pressures

using either Doppleror bi-laterally

using arterial photoplethysmography

(PPG). The user can then move on

and measure toe pressures if

calcified arteries are present. The

ABPI’s and TBPI’s are automatically

calculated and can be saved and

printed as a report.

Exercise Test

The exercise test has been

introduced so that intermittent

claudicants can be correctly

assessed. It records the resting

pressures from the ABPI test and

provides a timer to record the

duration and distance of the exercise.

Following the exercise, pressures can

be recorded and are plotted to show

the recovery time.

Alternatively Doppler waveforms and

pressures can be recorded pre and

post exercise providing valuable data

to aid the clinician’s diagnosis.

General Test

The new general test allows the

clinician to record Doppler

waveforms and pressures up to 14

sites. Each site can be customised to

undertake complete extracranial

studies or those requiring mixed

arterial and venous measurements.

Leg Ulcer Assessment andLymphoedema

The Dopplex® Assist series is ideal for

leg ulcer assessment and is now the

product of choice for Tissue Viability

Nurses, Clinical Nurse Specialists

and clinicians involved in wound

care. It can also be used to assess

the arterial status of the lymphatic

limb. (Doherty et al, 2006)

The new ABPI/TBPI application

allows rapid measurement of systolic

pressures in brachial and pedal

vessels using Doppler. The ABPI is

then calculated automatically and all

data can be stored and printed for

patient notes.

The level of arterial disease can be

determined and the appropriate

bandaging regime can be applied.

In the case of calcified arteries being

present then toe pressures can be

measured using arterial PPG

sensors. The TBPI is then calculated

automatically to determine the level

of arterial perfusion in the foot and

allow the appropriate referrals to be

made.

Diabetic Foot Assessment

Assessment of the diabetic foot is an

important part of the annual review of

a diabetic patient. It is now

recommended to undertake a

sensation test using a 10g

monofilament and a complete

vascular assessment on high risk

patients. (NICE, 2004; ETRS, 2003).

This takes the form of ABPI’s and the

recording of Doppler waveforms.

Toe pressures and TBPI’s should also

be measured on any diabetic with

calcified arteries. (Stuart, 2004)

The diabetic package enables a

clinician to undertake a complete

assessment on neuropathic,

ischemic or neuro-ischemic limbs to

determine the appropriate care

pathway.

Assessing Peripheral VascularDisease (PVD)

Various studies have shown that the

ABPI is a good indicator of the

presence of arterial disease and can

stratify the severity. Patients with an

ABPI < 0.9 are twice as likely to have

CHD as those with normal ABPI, and

with increased risk of MI, stroke and

death.

Patients with mild to moderate PVD

can now be given exercise regimes

and prescribed anti-platelet therapies

to extend their life expectancy.

Many of these patients are

intermittent claudicants and their

severity of PVD is unclear unless an

exercise test is performed. This can

be readily performed to determine

the extent of the disease, permitting

appropriate referrals or treatment.

Assessing Venous Leg Ulcers

Following the measurement of ABPI

to exclude significant arterial disease,

it is now recommended to undertake

venous assessment of recurrent or

non-healing ulcers. (ETRS, 2003).

This can be easily and rapidly

achieved by using the venous

package to determine the degree of

venous incompetence in the whole

leg. By using tourniquets

appropriately placed on the legs, the

level of superficial or deep venous

incompetence can be determined.

This information can help to progress

the patient onto the correct clinical

pathway and refer patients with

superficial disease for surgery or

sclerotherapy.

Principal Applications

References and testimonials available on request

Dopplex® Assist Reporter (AR2) is an Electronic Patient

Record system for the Dopplex® Assist series of products.

It is a software package that runs on a PC and allows the

transfer of patient files using a serial link, wireless network

or memory card.

This NEW version also allows the reporting and archiving of

patient records recorded by the new extended applications

of the Dopplex® Assist series.

It also enables data to be sent from a remote clinic by

email to a hospital for review by a specialist. Patient

records can also be reviewed by other

departments via a hospital network in a

client/server configuration.

Standard connection from the

Dopplex® Assist to a PC is by a

serial cable. A wireless LAN

option is available providing

portability and rapid transfer of

data from one or more Dopplex®

Assist units to a central PC

running Dopplex® AR2.

The optional wireless LAN

package requires an Ethernet port

and includes a PCMCIA wireless

card and a Wireless router.

Dopplex® AR2 requires a PC

running Windows 2000, XP and

Vista with a RS232 serial or USB

port.

Note: The wireless LAN package

has MAC address filtering for

security and will not support WEP.

Flexible modular options to compliment your practice

The versatility of the Dopplex® Assist series is evident with the availability of

application specific modules to suit your requirements, making the Dopplex®

Assist series even more cost effective.

New Vascular Assist Bi-Lateral Package

The NEW bi-lateral package has been introduced to simplify the purchasing

process. The package includes all the sensors, probes, electric pump and

cuffs for rapid bi-lateral measurements of lower limb arterial and venous

disease. The Dopplex® AR2 software and cables are now included.

Vascular Assist Package

The Vascular Assist package is configured

as a single channel system for

measurements using Doppler, PPG and

PVR. It is supplied with the Electric Pump

as standard.

It is ideal for comprehensive measurements in the primary and secondary care

settings. It can also be configured as a bi-lateral unit by the addition of extra

sensors and cuffs.

Spectral Assist Package

This Doppler only package allows the user

to record Doppler waveforms and measure

systolic pressures.

Using the integral patient database the

measurements can be stored and printed at a later date or at a different

location. Patient records can also be transferred to Dopplex AR2.

The ideal tool for rapid ABPI assessment with automatic calculations.

Diabetic Assist Package

This PPG only package is supplied with all

the sensors to record individual ABPI’s,

TBPI’s and waveforms from the digits and

toes (Stuart, 2002; Stuart et al, 2004). By

adding optional sensors and cuffs, blood

pressures in two limbs can be measured simultaneously.

This unit is an ideal tool for rapid assessment of the diabetic foot and leg

ulceration. It also has the facility to communicate with Dopplex® AR2 software.

Venous Assist Package

The Venous Assist package is a PPG only unit and is configured for dual

channel VPPG measurements. This allows the rapid assessment of venous

haemodynamics in both legs simultaneously, to determine the degree of

venous incompetence and screen for the absence of DVT.
