The Icon of the Holy Trinity On one level, this icon depicts the story of Abraham receiving three visitors at his camp by the oak of Mamre. Three gold-winged figures are seated around a white table on which a golden, chalice-like bowl contains a roasted lamb, reminding the viewer of an altar at Communion. On a second level, this image is a visual expression of the nature of our Triune God. Reading the picture from left to right, we see the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. On the right, the Holy Spirit has a garment of the clear blue of the sky, wrapped over with a robe of a fragile green, symbolizing that the Holy Spirit is present in all of creation. The Son, in the center, is adorned with a thick heavy garment of the reddish-brown of earth and a cloak of the blue of heaven. Over his right shoulder is a band of gold, symbolizing the words of the prophet Isaiah (“The government shall be upon his shoulders”). The Father seems to wear all the colors in a kind of fabric that changes with the light, that seems transparent, that cannot be described or confined in words. The Father looks forward, raising his hand in blessing to the Son. The hand of the Son points on, around the circle, to the Spirit. The Spirit gestures back to the Father. They are Three yet They are completely One, fully submitted to and in communion with one another. Note that their features are indistinguishable, further denoting the Oneness of our God. Above the Trinity are three signs. The hill pictured above the Holy Spirit represents our journey toward the Father. It may be steep and rocky, but the Holy Spirit empowers us to continue the journey. The tree pictured above the Son symbolizes the tree upon which the Son died and which provides shade for those journeying toward the Father. Above the head of the Father is the Father’s house. Its door is open, indicating that those who have been journeying toward the Father can enter into His rest.

The Collect for Trinity Sunday Please remain standing Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And with your spirit. Celebrant Let us pray. Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

…………... The Liturgy of the Word ……………

The Lesson Please be seated 2 Corinthians 13:5-14 5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test! 6 I hope you will find out that we have not failed the test. 7 But we pray to God that you may not do wrong—not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, though we may seem to have failed. 8 For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth. 9 For we are glad when we are weak and you are strong. Your restoration is what we pray for. 10 For this reason I write these things while I am away from you, that when I come I may not have to be severe in my use of the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down. 11 Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. 12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 All the saints greet you. 14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Gospeler The Gospel of the Lord. People Praise to you, Lord Christ.

Clark The Prayers of the People Please remain seated (BCP 110) The Confession of Sin Please stand Celebrant and People (BCP 112) Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, maker and judge of us all: We acknowledge and lament our many sins and offenses, which we have committed by thought, word, and deed against your divine majesty, provoking most justly your righteous anger against us. We are deeply sorry for these our transgressions; the burden of them is more than we can bear. Have mercy upon us, Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; for your Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may evermore serve and please you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. The Great Thanksgiving - Anglican Standard Text (BCP 115) The people stand. Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And with your spirit. Celebrant Lift up your hearts. People We lift them up to the Lord. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, who, with your co-eternal Son and Holy Spirit, are one God, one Lord, in Trinity of Persons and in Unity of Substance. For that which we believe of your glory, O Father, we believe the same of your Son, and of the Holy Spirit, without any difference or inequality. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: Sanctus Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the Name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

O how I fear thee, living God With deepest, tenderest fears

and worship thee with trembling hope and penitential tears

Yet I may love thee too, O Lord

Almighty as thou art For thou hast stooped to ask of me

the love of my poor heart

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Holy, holy, holy is the Lord

No earthly father loves like thee

No mother half as mild Bears and forbears, as thou hast done

with me, thy sinful child

How beautiful, how beautiful, the sight of thee will be,

Thine endless wisdom, boundless power, and awful purity!

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Holy, holy, holy is the Lord

In your incarnation, in your crucifixion, in your resurrection we exult

In your living witness, in your gracious friendship, Jesus, in your justice, we exult

In your gentle power, in your boundless wisdom,

in your advancing Kingdom, we exult In your loving kindness, giving sight from blindness,

infinite and timeless, we exult

Timeless, spaceless, single, lonely Yet sublimely Three

O Thou art grandly, always, only God in Unity

Only to sit and think of God

Oh what joy it is To think the thought, to breathe the Name

Earth has no higher bliss

Father of Jesus, love’s reward what rapture it will be

Prostrate before Thy throne to lie and gaze and gaze on thee

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Holy, holy, holy is the Lord

Please remain standing All praise and glory is yours, O God our heavenly Father, for in your tender mercy, you gave your only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the Cross for our redemption. He made there, by his one oblation of himself once offered, a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction, for the sins of the whole world; and he instituted, and in his Holy Gospel commanded us to continue, a perpetual memory of his precious death and sacrifice, until his coming again. So now, O merciful Father, in your great goodness, we ask you to bless and sanctify, with your Word and Holy Spirit, these gifts of bread and wine, that we, receiving them according to your Son our Savior Jesus Christ’s holy institution, in remembrance of his death and passion, may be partakers of his most blessed Body and Blood. For on the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body, which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me.” Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.” Therefore, we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. And here we offer and present to you, O Lord, ourselves, our souls and bodies, to be a reasonable, holy, and living sacrifice. We humbly pray that all who partake of this Holy Communion may worthily receive the most precious Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ, be filled with your grace and heavenly benediction, and be made one body with him, that he may dwell in us, and we in him. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN. The Lord’s Prayer The Celebrant then says And now as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Breaking of the Bread (BCP 118) Celebrant Alleluia! Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. People Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia! Invitation to Communion Celebrant The Gifts of God for the People of God. Please be seated

Instruction for Receiving Communion All baptized Christians, regardless of denomination, are welcome to receive the real and living presence of Christ in this Holy Communion in one of three ways. 1. Spiritual Communion. If you prefer not to receive Physical Communion, you are invited to make what the Early

Church called “Spiritual Communion,” also described as a participation in the “Sacrament of Desire.” You can be assured, as you pray this prayer, aloud or in your heart, that you have made your communion:

Dear Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I desire to possess you within my soul. And since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, I beseech you to come spiritually into my heart. I unite myself to you, together with all your faithful people gathered around the altar of Christchurch and every altar of your Church, and I embrace you with all the affections of my soul. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

2. Physical Communion now.

If you are seated in the outdoor “nave” and would like to receive physical communion during this morning’s service, please be seated until you come forward, follow the provided lanes, lower your mask as you come near the priest, and raise your mask as you return to your chair.

If you are in or around your car, please come to the priest when he comes into your parking bay. As you come forward, you may ask for multiple pieces of the Bread with which to communicate those in your car, giving it to them with the words, “The Body of Christ, the Bread of Heaven.”

As you come forward, please maintain proper physical distance from other households. You may also indicate that you would prefer a blessing in lieu of Communion by crossing your arms over your chest.

3. Physical Communion later this morning at the Rail.

You may come to the Church between 10:30 a.m. and Noon. Signs will direct you to enter through the Gospel transept door (the side door closest to the church office building).

Please maintain proper social distancing if you find yourself waiting in a line at this door. When the family in front of you has left the rail, come into the church, sanitizing your hands as you do. Come to the

center of the rail, remove any mask you may be wearing, and receive while standing. You will then depart through the Epistle doors and out through the columbarium, again sanitizing your hands as you depart.

Communion Music Oceans

You call me out upon the waters The great unknown where feet may fail And there I find You in the mystery In oceans deep my faith will stand Chorus And I will call upon Your name And keep my eyes above the waves When oceans rise My soul will rest in Your embrace For I am Yours and You are mine Your grace abounds in deepest waters Your sovereign hand will be my guide Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me You've never failed and You won't start now

Bridge Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters Wherever You would call me Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander And my faith will be made stronger In the presence of my Saviour Chorus 2 I will call upon Your name Keep my eyes above the waves My soul will rest in Your embrace I am Yours and You are mine

Post Communion Prayer Please stand (BCP 121) Celebrant and People Almighty and everliving God, we thank you for feeding us, in these holy mysteries, with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us, through this Sacrament, of your favor and goodness towards us: that we are true members of the mystical body of your Son, the blessed company of all faithful people; and are also heirs, through hope, of your everlasting kingdom. And we humbly ask you, heavenly Father, to assist us with your grace, that we may continue in that holy fellowship, and do all the good works that you have prepared for us to walk in; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

Communion Music Abide with Me

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide. When other helpers, fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, abide with me. Thou on my head, in early youth didst smile; And, though rebellious, and perverse meanwhile, Thou hast not left me, though I oft left Thee, On to the close Lord, abide with me. I need Thy presence, every passing hour. What but Thy grace, can foil the tempter's power? Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless Ills have no weight, tears lose their bitterness Where is thy sting death? Where grave thy victory? I triumph still, abide with me. Hold Thou Thy cross, before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies. Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee; In life, in death, Lord, abide with me.

Communion Music How Deep The Father's Love For Us

How deep the Father's love for us How vast beyond all measure That He should give His only Son To make a wretch His treasure How great the pain of searing loss The Father turns His face away As wounds which mar the Chosen One Bring many sons to glory Behold the Man upon a cross My sin upon His shoulders Ashamed I hear my mocking voice Call out among the scoffers It was my sin that held Him there Until it was accomplished His dying breath has brought me life I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything No gifts no power no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ His death and resurrection Why should I gain from His reward I cannot give an answer But this I know with all my heart His wounds have paid my ransom
