T his report provides an overview

of the acquisitions, exhibitions,

and educational programs

presented during the past fiscal year at

the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. It

also documents the generous donations

of artwork and contributions of financial

support from a broad variety of donor

sources during the period October 1,

2007 through September 30, 2008.

As documented during 2007, under the

leadership of the Board of Trustees, and

as carried out through the efforts of our

senior staff members, the Museum

created and adopted a new strategic plan

with the expert assistance of corporate

planners Tom Thompson & Associates.

Several goals were outlined in the plan

around the premise of maximizing

Museum attendance, participation,

membership and funding through

“developing a greater appreciation for

the quality of the MMFA and its value to

all residents of the greater Montgomery

area.” Since a website is often one of

the first interactions a person will have

with a brand, it serves as a key

communications piece and a vital first

step in working to maximize our growth

potential. In order for the MMFA to

grow and sustain a strong brand, it

must portray it not only in person, but

also online.

We anticipate the completion of a new

website by February of 2009. The

website will include such features as a

user-friendly search of the Museum’s

collection, a press room for the media,

special event menus and price sheets,

and an interactive educational section.

All visitors will be able to sign up to

volunteer, register for studio classes,

schedule a tour, and book a special event

online with the new site as well.

In addition, the Museum felt it was

imperative to include a blog on our new

website. The blog will provide regular

entries of commentary, descriptions of

events, or other material such as graphics

and video on happenings at the Museum.

It will combine text, images, and

graphics that, most importantly, will

allow readers to leave comments,

developing conversations between

the Museum and its publics about our

Museum, art, and Montgomery. It is our

hope that this new feature will encourage

even more visitors to the Museum.

After the first phase of the site is built,

the architecture will be in place for us

to continue to expand it in the years

to come. The future phases of the site

include plans for e-commerce (or the

buying and selling of products over the

internet for the Museum Shop),

personalized web pages for our

members, and even an intranet to

enable the Museum’s staff to

communicate more efficiently internally.

With the injection of social media tools

such as MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and

others, people now have the ability and

desire to easily share with each other,

and to discover people, places and things

that are of interest to them more quickly

than ever before. Not only is it impor-

tant for the Museum to understand the

technologies and tools that enable social

media, it’s essential that we analyze and

understand the shift in how information

is absorbed and distributed and integrate

those things into our new website. We

are looking forward to the building of

our new site and hope that, with it, we

can continue to grow and expand in new

ways, as the future of communications

evolves, and continue to use it to

capitalize on our success.

individuals and businesses in the River

Humorous interpretations of well-known works of art from the Museum’s permanent collection filled the corridor for the exhibition Hue, You, and Babar (March through June), in relation to the exhibition Babar’s Museum of Art. For the exhibition Impressions of America, (June through October), a visual feast
