DESCRIPTION

A drought is a period of below-average precipitation in a given region, resulting in prolonged shortages in its waters supply, whether atmospheric, surface or ground water. We can describe a drought scenario to be ‘A relatively long time where there is not enough water than there usually is, as a result of dry weather, to support human, animal and plant life. Droughts may not be an issue just because there is less or no precipitation. However, it becomes an issue when it begins to affect water supply for irrigation, municipal, industrial, energy, and ecosystem function. People often do not see droughts as natural disasters like tornadoes, hurricanes or floods, because they do not have usual immediate destructive ability, but they can be very catastrophic in the long run. Server droughts can have very serious consequences. In order to raise global awareness of the United Nations established the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. In Africa alone, from 1970 to 2010 the number of fatalities from drought is 1 million..

In Africa alone, from 1970 to 2010 the number of fatalities from drought is 1 million.

A wildfire is simply an uncontrolled fire that is wiping out large fields and areas of land. It is typically fires that started out of a lightening strike, or people carelessly starting it, or accidentally, or even arson, that went un-noticed and got out of hand. These fires sometimes burn for days and weeks. They can wipe out an entire forest and destroy almost every organic matter in it.

Tornado - atmospheric vortex that occurs in cumulonimbus ( thunderstorm ) cloud and spreads down , often to the very surface of the earth , in the form of a sleeve or a cloud trunk diameter of tens to hundreds of meters.Typically, the transverse diameter of the funnel of a tornado in the lower section of 300-400 m , although if a tornado touches the surface of the water , this value may be only 20-30 m, and the passage of the funnel over land may reach 1.5-3 km. The greatest number of tornadoes recorded in North America , particularly in the central states of the US , less - in the eastern United States . The record lifetime is considered Mettunsky tornado tornado that May 26, 1917 in 7 hours and 20 minutes was on the territory of the United States 500 km , killing 110 people.

The word "volcano" comes from the name of the Roman god of fire Vulcan.

Science, studying volcanoes - vulcanology, geomorphology.

Volcanoes are classified according to the form (thyroid, stratovolcanoes,

cinder cones, dome), activity (active, dormant, extinct), location (land,

underwater), and others.Volcanoes are divided according to the degree of volcanic activity on the active, dormant and extinct. The active volcano is considered to be a volcano erupted in historical time. Sleepers are considered

inactive volcanoes, where possible eruptions and extinct - on which they are

unlikely. The main areas of volcanic activity - South America, Central

America, Java, Melanesia, the Japanese islands, the Kuril Islands, Kamchatka

Peninsula, north-western United States, Alaska, Hawaii, the Aleutian Islands,

Iceland, Atlantic Ocean.

This is simply a series of massive ocean waves, triggered by an earthquake that has occurred in the sea (or ocean). The displaced water then runs ashore and into the land. This happens when the plates underneath the Earth's surface move (focus) so that one slips under another.Tsunamis may also be caused by underwater landslides or volcanic eruptions.

December 26, 2004 Southeast Asia. The December 26, 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami was caused by an earthquake that is thought to have had the energy of 23,000 Hiroshima-type atomic bombs. The epicenter of the 9.0 magnitude quake was located in the Indian Ocean near the west coast of Sumatra. The violent movement of the Earth’s tectonic plates displaced an enormous amount of water, sending powerful shock waves in every direction.

March 11, 2011 Japan Strong earthquake, located 373 kilometers northeast of Tokyo, caused a tsunami with a wave height exceeds 40 meters. In addition, the earthquake and subsequent tsunami caused Fukushima I. As of July 2, 2011 the official death toll from the earthquake and tsunami in Japan is 15 524 people, 7130 people reported missing, 5393 people wounded.

.  It is a powerful, spiral weather that result from low pressure systems. (low pressure systems explained below) It is seen as a massive storm (powerful winds often with rains, thunderstorms and lightning) that usually moves, covering a stretch of 500-600miles

In 2012 the most devastating hurricane was called Sandy. It was a category 3 hurricane that made landfall in the eastern coast of the USA between the 22nd and 29th of October. It caused approximately 50 billion USD worth of damage and 147 deaths.

It is a natural event or occurrence where a piece of land (or area) that is usually dry land, suddenly gets submerged under water. Some floods can occur suddenly and recede quickly. Others take days or even months to build and discharge. When floods happen in an area that people live, the water carries along objects like houses, bridges, cars, furniture and even people. It can wipe away farms, trees and many more heavy items.

In Australia, floods are the most expensive type of natural disaster with direct costs estimated over the period 1967-2005 averaging at $377 million per year (calculated in 2008 Australian dollars).

Earthquakes - tremors and vibrations of the earth's surface, caused by natural causes (mainly tectonic processes) or artificial processes (explosions,

filling reservoirs, underground cavities collapse of mining). Small tremors can be caused as the rise of lava during volcanic eruptions.

Every year, throughout the world there are about a million earthquakes, but most of them are so small that they go unnoticed. Really strong earthquake

could cause extensive destruction of the planet occur about once every two weeks. To evaluate and compare the earthquake magnitude scale used (eg the

Richter scale) and high intensity scale. 1 point (discreet)

2 points (very poor) 3 points (weak)

4 points (moderate) 5 points (strong enough)

6 points (strong) 7 points (very strong) 8 points (destructive) 9 points (devastating)

10 points (kills) 11 points (catastrophe)

12 points (severe accident)

Volcanic earthquakes and man-made earthquake, landslide earthquake, earthquake artificial nature.
