    1.3.0 SUBMITTALS

    1.3.1. Product Data: Submit specifications, installation instructions, and generalrecommendations from the roofing materials manufacturer for each type ofroofing product required. Include the manufacturer's data substantiating thatthe materials used are in compliance with the requirements.

    1.3.2. Samples: Submit samples of each roofing system material for theContracting Officer's approval.

    1.3.3. Shop Drawings: Submit complete shop drawings showing roofconfigurations and sheet layout, perimeter details as well as specialconditions.

    1.40 TRANSPORTATION, HANDLING AND STORAGE

    1.4.1. Deliver materials in the manufacturer's unopened, labeled packing, and

    conform to the manufacturer's storage, handling, installation and protectionrequirements.

    1.50 WARRANTY

    1.5.1. Provide a written warranty, signed by the Manufacturer of the primaryroofing materials and the Installer, agreeing to replace and repair defectivematerials and workmanship for a period of 10 years starting from date ofsubstantial completion.

    1.6.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE

    1.6.1. Manufacturer: Provide primary products for the roofing system producedby a single manufacturer to the greatest possible extent. Providesecondary products which are acceptable to the manufacturer of primary

    products.

    1.6.2. Installation: Work under this Section shall be performed by a specializedSub-Contractor approved by the Contracting Officer, recommended bythe waterproofing membrane manufacturer, and having at least 10 yearsexperience in successfully completed projects.

    1.6.3. Thermal Resistance: Where thermal resistance properties of insulatingmaterials are designated by the R-values they represent the rate of heatflow through a material of thickness indicated, measured by the testmethod included in the referenced material standard or as otherwiseindicated.

    1.6.4. Fire Performance Characteristics: Provide insulation materials which areidentical to those whose fire performance characteristics, as listed foreach material or assembly of which insulation is a part, have beendetermined by testing according to the methods indicated below:

    1.6.4.1. Surface Burning Characteristics: ASTM E 84 or equivalentstandards.

    1.6.4.2. Fire Resistance Ratings: ASTM E 119 or equivalent standards.

    1.6.4.3. Combustibility Characteristics: ASTM E 136 or equivalentstandards.

    1.700 JOB CONDITIONS

    1.7.1. Weather: Proceed with roofing work when the existing and forecastedweather conditions permit work to be performed in accordance with themanufacturer's recommendations and warranty requirements.

    2.00PART 2 - PRODUCTS

    2.1.00 INVERTED ROOFING SYSTEM

    2.1.1 Roof Screed: Lightweight concrete with oven dry density of 640 - 800Kg/m, when tested as per ASTM C 495 and minimum compressivestrength 3 MPa, when tested in accordance with ASTM C 495.Foaming agent shall be as recommended by the Manufacturer. Mixdesign shall be as recommended by the manufacturer and approved bythe Contracting Officer. Thickness as recommended by themanufacturer (but not less than 50 mm thick), and shall be applied to

    roof to maintain the required slope.

    2.1.2. Bituminous Sheet Membrane Waterproofing: Refer to Section07100 - MEMBRANE WATERPROOFING.

    2.1.30 Roof Thermal Insulation:

    2.1.3.1. Construction: Close-celled, extruded polystyrene rigid foam,80 mm thick, with integral high density skin, conforming toASTM C 578 or DIN 18164 Part 1; flame spread rating of 25or less when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84; 5-yearaged average thermal conductivity of 0.032 W/mK whentested at 24oC in accordance with ASTM C 518; water vapor

    permeability of 0.60 perm-inch average; average waterabsorption of maximum 1 percent by volume; with rebatedetails on four edges of board.

    2.1.3.2. Rigid roof insulation boards: shall have compressive strengthof 300 kPa average when tested according to ASTM D 1621and minimum density 32 kg/m.

    2.1.4.0 Separation Layer: Non-woven polyester fabric of a minimum densityof 200 g/m and to be laid above the roof insulation.

    2.1.5. Protection Layer: High density polyethylene sheeting conforming toASTM E 154, 250 microns (10 mils) thick. Similar material having avapor permeance rating not more than 0.3 perm as determined byASTM E 96, Procedure E will be considered suitable when approved

    by the Contracting Officer.

    2.1.6. Flashing Materials: Manufacturer's standard extruded aluminumsystem compatible with the roofing membrane.

    2.1.7. Roof Topping:

    2.1.7.1 Gravel Surfacing: Where indicated on Drawings, provideround edge pea gravel aggregates with diameter size of 15- 30 mm, and total thickness of 50 mm only for areasshown on the Drawings.

    2.1.7.2 Concrete Tiles: Lay concrete tiles where indicated onDrawings. Size shall be as shown on Drawings.

    3.00PART 3 - EXECUTION

    3.1 GENERAL:

    3.1.1. Roof waterproofing works shall be executed by a specialized Sub-

    Contractor recommended by the waterproofing membrane manufacturerand approved by the Contracting Officer.

    3.20 INVERTED ROOFING SYSTEM

    3.2.1.Preparation of Substrate:

    3.2.1.1. After completion and curing of roof screed, inspect condition ofsubstrate to receive roofing system, and conditions under whichwork will be performed. Correct unsatisfactory conditionsincluding inadequate provisions in substrate for bondingroofing. Do not proceed with roofing work until unsatisfactoryconditions have been corrected.

    3.2.1.2. Install cant strips, fillets, and accessory items as indicated, or asrecommended by the manufacturer even though not shown on

    Drawings.

    3.2.1.3. Clean, prepare, and treat substrate according tomanufacturer's written instructions. Provide clean, dust-free,and dry substrate for waterproofing application.

    3.2.1.4. Mask off adjoining surfaces not receiving waterproofing toprevent spillage affecting other construction.

    3.2.1.5. Remove grease, oil, bitumen, form release agents, paints, andother penetrating contaminants from concrete.

    3.2.1.6. Remove fins, ridges, mortar, and other projections and fillhoneycomb, aggregate pockets, holes, and other voids.

    3.2.1.7. Prepare, fill, prime, and treat joints and cracks in substrate.Remove dust and dirt from joints and cracks according toASTM D 4258.

    3.2.1.8. Prepare, treat, and seal vertical and horizontal surfacesat terminations and penetrations through waterproofingand at drains and protrusions.

    3.2.2.0 Roofing Membrane Installation:

    3.2.2.1. Installation details: Perform external and internal corners,upstands, drainage and pipes penetrations strictly inaccordance with those shown on the Drawings and asrecommended by the manufacturer.

    3.2.2.2 Membrane Installation: For Inverted Roofing System: Unroll,align membrane then re-roll and bond to the primed substrate

    by melting underside of membrane using a torch with gas

    burner. Lap seams minimum 75 mm, and seal seam with hot

    trowel and excess mastic sealer. Roofing membrane shall befully bonded to the primed substrate. Start laying of theroofing membrane from the lowest point when laid on asurface to falls to ensure weathered overlaps.

    3.2.2.3. Test roof membrane after completion by flooding 75 mmwater height for a period of 48 hours.

    3.2.3. 0 Insulation Installation:

    3.2.3.1. Comply with insulation manufacturer's written instruction forparticular conditions of installation. Lay polyethylene sheetprotection layer over waterproofing membrane prior toinstallation of insulation boards.

    3.2.3.2. Extended insulation full thickness over entire area to be

    insulated. Cut and fit tightly around obstructions and fill voidswith insulation. Remove projection interfering with placement.

    3.2.3.3. Lay non-woven polyester fabric separation layer over insulationprior to installation of roof topping.

    3.2.4.0 Roof Topping:

    3.2.4.1. After completing waterproofing membrane, composite flashingand set-on accessories, as well as laying the insulation on eachsubstantial area of roofing, cover the area with the separation

    layer.

    3.2.4.2. Provide one of the following roof toppings as indicated onDrawings and as follows:

    a. Aggregate Surfacing: Loose-fill the surface with auniform layer of pea gravel 50 mm thick.

    b. Concrete Tiles: Lay concrete tiles as per drawings.

    3.30 PROTECTION OF ROOFING

    3.3.1. Protect roofing upon completion of roofing work and during the remainderof construction period. At the end of construction, or at the time whenremaining construction work will in no way affect or endanger the roofing,make a final inspection of roofing and prepare a written report describingthe nature and the extent of deterioration or damage found in work.

    3.3.2. Repair or replace the deteriorated or the defective work found at time offinal inspection. Repair or replace the roofing and associated work to acondition free of damage and deterioration at time of substantial completion.
