2009 Very little of the original buildings in Govan remain today except for a few relicks which now seem isolated and not part of the dense urban fabric

which existed previously. New industrial buildings have sprung up nearby partly due to the areas close proximity to the motorway as well as new housing bearing little resemblance to the original tenement blocks.

1865 By 1865, the village had expanded outwards and new developments built along the riverside road. In the large space between the road and river, new yards with long workshops were built to provide services for the

rapidly expanding ship building industry.

1913 By this stage Govan is now an integral part of Glasgow city. A legible pattern of tenement streets has developed. The space between Govan

High Street, now an popular shopping area and the river has now become an industrial zone with many shipbuilding industries located here.

1689 Govan began as a seperate village from Glasgow, which was a little further up River. At this time it was little more than a main street leading from the riverside road to the river where a crossing point was established. Set back from the street was a small church which survives to this day.
