SEN Code Transition Phase (2014/15 Academic Year)

During the transitional phase schools will be able to record pupils as having either a statement or an EHC plan.

Schools may have some pupils with statements and some who have already moved to EHC plans but no individual pupil can have both.

SIMS Summer 2014 UpgradeSEN - Transition

SEN Code Transition Phase (Autumn Term 2014)

The transitional phase for School Action and School Action Plus change to SEN Support is the Autumn Term 2014. This should fall in line with school practice of termly reviews for pupils who come under the SA/SA+ category.

SA/SA+ category is acceptable for School Census Autumn 2014 but will not be acceptable for School Census Spring 2015.

Where a pupil was under a category of SA the new code of NSA can be used.

“As stated in previous years, schools are advised to insert the 27th June 2014 leaving date in September when the school has confirmation that the student is not returning. This process should continue. Obviously there is the issue of what absence code to use between 28th June and the end of term. From the the DfE Absence and Attendance Codes guidance January 2009 please find below an extract taken from page relating to 'X' code, which states that:

Under the 2006 Pupil Registration regulations, schools cannot delete Year 11 pupils who intend to remain at the school and enter the Sixth Form (Year 12) from the school registers. Once the pupils have reached the end of their compulsory school-age, which is on the last Friday in June, they can be recorded using this code if the school has not asked them to attend. Using the 'X' code in this way allows the student to stay on roll until the school has confirmation that they have left. “

SIMS SOLUS3

What is it?

SOLUS3 is the updated version of the system which currently enables schools and academies to download and upgrade SIMS and other related applications

Page 37: 09:30REGISTRATION AND COFFEE/TEA 10:00SIMS SUMMER 2014 UPGRADE 10:20SCHOOL CENSUS AUTUMN 2014 10:40SIMS END OF ACADEMIC YEAR 11:10Short Break 11:30AOB

SIMS SOLUS3

Why is it being upgraded?

updates can be easily scheduled allowing you to control when you want the upgrade

the entire SIMS system can be upgraded without end-user SIMS user involvement

SIMS client software can be installed remotely, reducing the need for a workstation visit

the potential for local authorities to manage SIMS updates remotely for their supported schools

SIMS Solus3

When will this happen?

The team will be receiving training on the deployment during July. We will be able to answer more questions about the implementation after this date

SOLUS2 is currently available until Autumn 2015 upgrade

The FirstClass database will shortly be transferred to a new data centre.

In order to achieve this transfer the size of the database needs to be reduced

Over recent weeks the number of user accounts have been reduced in an effort to bring the database down to the required size

But we are not quite there yet!

So……..

Can all schools please look at the information and conferences, calendars, folders etc. currently stored on FirstClass and let us know which can be removed.

Do not remove the conferences yourself as in most cases the icon you see will only be a link to a centrally held container……just give us a list and we will do the rest.
