The diagnosis of diseases, monitoring of treatment and patient management largely depend on the results of blood tests: their precision and correct interpretation is essential for making the right choice. And the safety of the person collecting the blood is just as essential: in the diagnostic process (exam order, patient preparation, analysis of the collected samples) the pre-analysis phase is not only the one in which 45% to 70% of all errors5 is concentrated, but it is also the one in which healthcare professionals are most exposed to biological risk6, accounting for 42% of the cases in Italy of seroconversion to HIV, HBV or HCV due to accidental needlesticks.
