The Community Sector Council of NovaScotia (CSCNS) is five years old! It hasbeen five years of transition and growth asthe CSCNS works to support non-profitorganization’s across the province. This year the CSCNS has been committedto supporting an innovative sector thatcontinues to grow. It is a vibrant sectorproviding essential supports, and servicesin all of our communities throughout theprovince. Our role is to help organizationsgain the skills needed to be strongerorganizations who regularly respond tocomplex issues. While the CSCNS has beendelivering training, workshops, andcustomized learning, our staff and Boardhave continued to advocate for theinvestment into the capacity building ofNova Scotia’s non-profit sector. We havebeen building awareness with stakeholderswho invest in the sector about the humanresource, leadership, technological, sustainability, innovation, and growth needsof our sector.
Message from the Board Chair & Executive Director
We encourage stakeholders to “mine” thepotential of our sector beyond the traditionalfunding/recipient relationship through ourconversations about the value of workingwith the non-profit sector as a strategicpartner in social and economic planning, community development, and policydevelopment. The CSCNS values collaboration, and believethat each sector has unique expertise, skills, and resources that it can contribute to thesocial and economic development of theprovince and that Nova Scotia’s economicprosperity and social well being relies on ourability to learn from each other and to workwith each other. A major highlight this year was our ManyHands Many Voices conference in Membertouin October. Hosting this conference was anopportunity for our sector to come togetherwith other sectors to explore the conceptsand tools of collaboration. We were able toshowcase some of the innovativecollaborative practices and initiativeshappening across the province and choseMembertou as our host community as anamazing leader in community economicdevelopment and community engagement.
