4. Chair’s Report
The chair updated the committee on work being done at the bicameral task force on governance
committee, note that this is also an item on today’s agenda.
The chair attended a Faculty of Social Sciences Council meeting to address committee questions on
course curriculum. The variance request approved at SSCC precipitated an invitation from APPD to
attend a department meeting.
A meeting is planned with the new Dean, Faculty of Design and the new Associate Dean of Academic
and Career Advancement to discuss existing degrees and course curriculum.
Concept documents are expected to come forward soon, as well as full program proposals from
Geography and Political Science. Questions were raised regarding minor programs and the process
for creating a Minor from a Major program. The chair is contacting DQAB to discuss.
The name change for the proposed Bachelor of Nursing program has been confirmed and the chair
has been informed that confirmation from the ministrywill be received shortly. Noted that the
Bachelor of Nursing name change did not come forward at the October Senate meeting.

secondary institutions are revising their existing requirement to align with the changes
Moved by Tally Wade, seconded by Jackie Baron THAT SSCC accept the revision to the high school
math requirements as follows:
Principles of Math 11 (C) will become Pre‐calculus 11 or Foundations 11 (C+)

Proposed Change: Students who otherwise meet the admission requirements for admission into the BA
program (3rd year), and who have completed at least six credits of quantitative courses (or their
equivalent) with a minimum grade of C+ in each of them, will be deemed to meet the high school math
requirement for admission to the BA. Three of the six credits applied to meet this requirement must be
from the Faculty of Science and Horticulture.
Moved Doug Fletcher, seconded by Susan Morris THAT SSCC approve the changes to the math
admission requirements for the Bachelor of Arts, 3rd year, pending revisions. MOTION CARRIED
ACTION: Z. Mitchell, D. Cserepes, R. Adamoski, M. Guirguis to wordsmith and clarify the appropriate
implementation date.
8. Computer Information Systems Diploma and Bachelor of Information Technology Removed from
Hiatus – For Information
These programs were originally placed on hiatus in 2007 as classes were not filling. In the meantime,
changes to the field occurred, a Program Review occurred and courses that were on offer as part of
other programs were still being updated. In the spring of 2011, it was noted that KPU did not offer the
diploma and there was no access for direct transfer into the 3rd year program.
Noted that a policy for the process of placing and removing programs on hiatus is being drafted.
9. Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology Calendar Rewording – For Information
Changes to the calendar to add the statement (for admittance into the 3rd year of the program):
Kwantlen’s Computer Information Systems (CISY) diploma with a minimum GPA of 2.7
10. Update: Bicameral Task Force on Program Development
The committee reviewed the recommendations being put forward by the task force on the process for
approving new and revised programs and program concepts. The recommendations acknowledge the
differences between the two major governing bodies and their areas of responsibility and expertise.
11. Update – Budget Page Program Concept
Changes have been made to the program concept budget document in concert with the Finance
department. The revisions will be sent to the Provost for approval.
12. Items for Discussion
13. Meeting was adjourned at 6:17pm.
