    John 17

    The Lord's Prayer for Himself

After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed, Father, the time has come. Glorifyyour Son, that your Son may glorify you.

For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you havegiven him.

Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you

    have sent.

I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.

And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world

    began.

    John 17 continued

The Lord's Prayer for His Disciples

I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gavethem to me and they have obeyed your word.

Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you.

For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I

came from you, and they believed that you sent me.

I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are

    yours.

All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them.

I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. HolyFather, protect them by the power of your namethe name you gave meso that they may be

    one as we are one.

    The Lords Prayer

While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None hasbeen lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.

I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they mayhave the full measure of my joy within them.

I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any

more than I am of the world.

My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.

They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.

Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.

For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.

    Prayers of Jesus

    John 17 continued

The Lord's Prayer for All Believers

My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through theirmessage,

that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us

so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one

I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you

sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

    Bible Parables of Jesus

    The Parable of the Weeds

    Mathew 13:24-29

Jesus told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven

is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.

But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came andsowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.

When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared. The owner's servants

came to him and said, Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weedscome from?

An enemy did this, he replied. The servants asked him, Do you want us to go and pull them up?'

No, he answered, because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat withthem.

Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect theweeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.

    of Man.

The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the

    sons of the evil one,

and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvestersare angels.

and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then

she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. When the Pharisee whohad invited him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would know who is

touching him and what kind of woman she isthat she is a sinner."

Jesus answered him, Simon, I have something to tell you. Tell me, teacher," he said.

Two men owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the

    other fifty.

Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he canceled the debts of both. Now which ofthem will love him more?

Simon replied, I suppose the one who had the bigger debt canceled. You have judged correctly,

    Jesus said.

Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I came into your

Then Jesus said to her, Your sins are forgiven.

Jesus said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace.
