5. Snoring and Sleep Apnea

Snoring is often a sign of sleep disordered breathing or sleep apnea. Research has indicated that dental appliances should be the first line of treatment for snoring and mild to moderate sleep apnea for those who don’t tolerate CPAP. Working with your primary physician, Drs. Bouzis and Hokanson can fabricate a custom sleep appliance to treat snoring and/or certain types of sleep apnea. In cases of CPAP intolerance, many patients find that a dental appliance is actually easier to use and experience positive results.

For patients looking for a CPAP alternative, new research shows that a dental appliance is “at least as…effective as CPAP for improving quality of life and reducing sleepiness in moderate-severe obstructive sleep apnea."*

6. Emphasis on early preventative treatment

The American Dental Association recommends that children have their first checkup as early as one year of age to screen for potential troubles. Of course, the check-up may return positive news, but while your child’s teeth may appear to be in good health, there might be a problem that only a dentist can detect. For our young patients who do require treatment, let’s find a direction to go. The goal of early treatment is to teach healthy habits and improve conditions for your child’s permanent teeth and overall heath. These appointments will screen for areas of: -Teeth crowding -Tooth decay -Missing permanent teeth -Tongue and tonsil concerns -Diet concerns -Health habits The goal of early treatment is to create a better environment for your child's permanent teeth and overall health.

7. Personal, Friendly Reminder of Appointments
