Exploitation is WrongExploitation is wrong EVEN if

The person is older and bigger. The person has done or promises to do favors or buy gifts. You liked the touch to begin with (like tickling) and changed

your mind.It took you a long time to get up the courage to tell or even to

realize it wasn’t fair. The person is “in charge” like a parent, a teacher, a coach, a

babysitter, a bus driver, etc.The person is someone you love or trust.

How does sexual abuse happen?Usually it happens gradually (over months or years).Usually it is not violent.Usually it involves tricks, threats or special treats.Usually it involves someone the child knows – and maybe

loves – not strangers…Almost always it involves a pact of secrecy. It may give children a warning feeling, in their guts…

sometimes called an “UH-OH” feeling. It can involve boys as well as girls.

Review

You have rights when it comes to your body.Sexual exploitation or abuse is always wrong. If sexual abuse happens to you; tell someone.Sexual abuse is never the victim’s fault. If a friend tells you they have been sexually exploited,

you should believe them, show you care, don’t blame them , and tell an adult, not other classmates.
