The in-game language depends onthe one that is set on the system.This title supports eight differentlanguages: English, German, French,Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portugueseand Russian.You can change the in-gamelanguage by changing the languagesetting of your system. 2 Introduction

NEW ART ACADEMY: LEARN NEWPAINTING TECHNIQUES AND SHAREYOUR ART lets you paint and drawusing the stylus.

There are two modes: Lessons (p. 6)and Free Paint (p. 8). In lessonsmode, you can take lessons ondrawing and painting. In Free Paintmode, you’ll be able to draw andpaint freely. You can also share yourartwork with your friends (p. 13-14),purchase new lessons (p. 12) andcreate custom mini lessons (p. 10).

5 Saving

You can save the game at any timeduring a game session from theVince Menu. You can do this inthree different ways:

- Save Session: Save your work toresume it later.

- Save to Portfolio: Save an artworkto hang in your Gallery. (Youcannot resume your work later.)

- Export to Photos: Send a largeversion of your artwork to theNintendo 3DS Camera photos. (Youcannot resume your work later.)

You will be offered a chance to savethe game at the end of each stageduring a lesson.

By holding , , and whenstarting the game, you can access amenu that allows you to clear all ofyour unlocked lessons, gallerysettings and Options Menu settings.

● Do not turn the power off and onrepeatedly or remove the GameCard or SD Card while saving.Make sure not to reset the systemduring saves or get dirt in theterminals. These actions couldresult in permanent data loss.

● Do not use external accessoriesor software to modify your savedata, as this can lead to aninability to progress or loss ofsave data. Any modification ispermanent, so be careful.

6 Lessons and Mini Lessons

There are nine lessons and sevenmini lessons in the IntroductoryCourse, and eight of each in theAdvanced Course. Only the firstlesson of each course is initiallyavailable.

The mini lessons give a chance topractise what was learned in the mainlesson using a similar subject image.Completing an unlocked lesson willunlock its associated mini lesson (ifany) and also the next lesson in thecourse.

In lessons and mini lessons, Vincegives instructions in TeachingSections which may include diagramsor recordings.

● Access Review Mode by pressing or tappin to read Vince'slines again from the beginning ofthe current step. Diagrams orrecordings cannot be reviewed.

● Expanded Text is used forinteresting art history ortechniques that are not necessaryto successfully complete thelesson. Vince's dialogue boxchanges colour to indicateExpanded Text.

● Recordings and Expanded Textcan be skipped by pressing ortappin .

During Painting Sections, you followVince's instructions to create thenext step of your artwork. You canuse the Tool Menu (p. 7) to changetools, and get a reminder of what todo by opening the Vince Menu.

All mini lessons and some mainlessons have image variationsavailable. Image variations can beaccessed with and .

● In some main and mini lessons,when the source image is on theupper screen, different angles orlighting variations are available.

● In mini lessons, when Vince'simage is on the upper screen, thedifferent stages of Vince'spainting will be available.

7 Tools

There are four different mediaavailable in NEW ART ACADEMY:Pencils, Paints, Coloured Pencils andPastels. Each lesson teaches onespecific medium. Mini lessons maysometimes use a different mediumfrom the main lesson.

All media are available in Free Paintand in the custom lesson creator.

The grid tool places a grid over bothyour canvas and the reference imageon the upper screen. The grid canhelp you to accurately position andsize your drawing.

When the grid tool is on, the subjectimage on the top screen will bedisplayed in 2D.

The zoom tool allows you to zoom inon your work for increased accuracy.While zoomed in, you can movearound using .

Colour Matcher

The colour matcher is a colouredcircle that appears over the sourceimage on the upper screen when thepaint set, coloured pencil set, orpastel set is open.

The colour of the circle matchesyour currently selected paint, pastelor coloured pencil. The circle can bemoved around the upper screenusing . Use the colour matcher tohelp you choose the right colours foryour drawing.

During a lesson, you can switch yourreference on the upper screen fromthe subject image to Vince'spainting.

It is possible to change the mediaused in Free Paint and the customlesson creator.

8 Free Paint

The Free Paint mode in NEW ARTACADEMY lets you practise yourdrawing and painting skills usingwhatever tools and subject you like!

Unlike in lessons, you can switchfreely between the different media inFree Paint. Note that switchingmedia will automatically 'dry' or 'fix'your artwork. Any marks already onthe canvas when you switch mediacan no longer be changed or erased.

In Free Paint you can choose asubject image from the image library,which contains all of the lessonsource images and many more.

When choosing a subject image, theimage variations icons indicate thatvariations of the image can beaccessed during the session with and .

You can also import your own 3D or2D photos taken using theNintendo 3DS Camera, or imagessaved in your SD Card.

9 3D Gallery

In your 3D Gallery, you can displayyour finished artworks and showthem off to your friends!

To move around your gallery, use to change your direction of view andthe up arrow icon or to moveforward.

Tapping PORTFOLIO opens yourportfolio, where you can delete yoursaved artworks. If you are standingin front of a wall space, you can alsorename artworks and mount themfrom your portfolio.

To mount an artwork from yourportfolio on the wall, approach a wallspace and open your portfolio.Select an artwork and tap theMOUNT button.

To rotate or re-frame a mountedimage, approach it and select theFRAME button. You can choose froma wide variety of frames and fourdifferent orientations.

10 Custom Lessons

The custom lesson creator lets youcreate your own mini lessons withyour choice of subject to share withyour friends! Custom lessons can becreated or played by selectingCUSTOM LESSONS from the lessonsmenu.

The first step of creating a customlesson is to select a subject imageto teach, and a canvas or paper todraw or paint on. If no subject imageis desired, this step can be skippedby tapping NO IMAGE.

Annotations are the teaching text foryour lesson. Each stage of thelesson contains from one to fiveannotations (pages of teaching text).When your lesson is played, yourchosen Mii™ will present thisteaching text to the player.

A custom lesson consists of anintroductory stage during which thesubject image is introduced, and upto nine additional stages.

significant point and select FINISHSTAGE from the Vince menu. Thestate of your artwork will be saved,and you will be asked to addannotations to explain to the playerhow to tackle that stage.

The REVIEW STAGES button in theVince menu lets you review yourlesson so far. Here you can alsoadd, edit, or delete annotations. Youcan also remove previously savedstages, but the introductory stagecannot be removed.

When you finish creating yourlesson, you need to publish it to turnit into a playable lesson that can beshared with your friends. To do this,select PUBLISH LESSON from theVince menu.

11 Nintendo Network

This software supports NintendoNetwork™. Software titles which supportNintendo Network include theNintendo Network logo on thepackaging.

Nintendo Network is an onlineservice which allows you to play withother players all over the world,download new software and add-oncontent, trade videos, passmessages and much more!

12 Add-on Lessons

The add-on lessons option allowsyou to purchase additional lessonsfor NEW ART ACADEMY. From theMain Menu, select LESSONS, thenADD-ON LESSONS. From this menu,choose PURCHASE AND PLAY toenter the add-on lessons menu. Topurchase additional items, you musthave enough funds in your NintendoeShop account. If you do not haveenough please add funds to youraccount.

Note: - You can restrict online interaction

via Parental Controls. For moreinformation, refer to the OperationsManual.

13 Face to Face

Face to Face lets you share contentwith nearby friends through localwireless communication between twoNintendo 3DS systems.

● You Will Need:- One Nintendo 3DS system per

player- One copy of the software per

player

● SetupTouch SHARE on the Main Menu tosend or receive content via Face toFace.

Up to 12 players can participate.Each player must have a copy of thesoftware.

Select SEND and then choose whatcontent to share. Your system willbecome the host. Up to 11 friendscan connect to your systemsimultaneously to receive the sharedcontent.

14 SpotPass

SpotPass allows you to shareartwork created with NEW ARTACADEMY with your registeredfriends. You can send your artworkand custom lessons and receivethem from your friends.

To use SpotPass, you must first: - Accept the Nintendo 3DS Service

User Agreement and Privacy Policy- Set up an internet connection- Insert an SD Card into the

Nintendo 3DS system.For information on these, refer tothe Operations Manual.

Upon starting the game for the firsttime, you will be prompted toactivate SpotPass for NEW ARTACADEMY. If you do not wish toactivate SpotPass now, you can doso later from the Options menu(p. 4).

SpotPass allows you to sharecontent with friends anywhere in theworld. Select the content to share,and then choose the friends withwhom you would like to share thecontent.

Once shared, the content will appearin your friend's SpotPass inbox thenext time they connect to aSpotPass hotspot.
