1. NG ENG TENG
Ng’s sculptures are mainly inspired by the human figure. His works range from iconic public sculptures to whimsical representations of the human forms. His simplified yet exaggerated forms display his ability to communicate in an imaginative and at times surprising ways. One of the most renowned artists in Singapore, he is remembered for his large-scale sculptures gracing many public spaces, and his introspective and whimsical interpretations of humanist themes in three-dimensions.

2. CHUA MIA TEE
Born on 25 November 1931, Shatou, Guandong Province, China.
Chua’s belief that art must reflect reality is exemplified in his paintings of the working
class. His detailed rendition of nationalistic concerns in the early days of Singapore is a
snapshot of its formative years. Chua Mia Tee's artistic style has been called Social
Realism, a school of art responding to the industrial revolution and urbanization,
focusing specifically on working class realities. The Singaporean social realists blended
anti-colonial sentiment, nationalist aspirations and socialist concerns in various
proportions in their work.

As they sat facing each other, they are called to
consider the deceivingly simple questions written
on the black chalk board: Siapa nama kamu? Di-
mana awak tinggal? (What is your name? Where
do you live?)

model for the teacher in the painting.

3. RENE MAGRITTE Born on 21 November 1898 Lessines, Belgium. Died on 15 August
1967 (aged 68) Brussels, Belgium. René François Ghislain Magritte was well
known for a number of witty and thought-provoking images that fall under the
umbrella of surrealism. His work is known for challenging observers'
preconditioned perceptions of reality. Magritte’s realistic juxtaposition of
ordinary people and objects in unexpected contexts offer unusual perspectives
and meanings of the world we live in. His paintings often challenge the way we
see things in an imaginative way.

4. PABLO PICASSO (SPAIN/FRANCE)

5. FRIDA KAHLO (MEXICAN)
Artist Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907, in Coyocoán, Mexico City,
Mexico. Considered one of Mexico's greatest artists, Frida Kahlo began
painting after she was severely injured in a bus accident. Kahlo later
became politically active and married fellow communist artist Diego Rivera
in 1929. She exhibited her paintings in Paris and Mexico before her death in
1954.

6. JEFF WALL (CANADA)
Wall’s large scale photographic images depict the life of people and their
living spaces in a staged manner. His eye for details and use of actors and
artificial lighting allows him to narrate the stories of urban life in a
cinematographic way.

8. TANG DA WU (SINGAPORE)
Tang’s artworks show a wide range of ideas that tell stories of people,
cultures and the environment. His installation art and experimental treatment
of medium to convey critical social messages are often thought-provoking.

9. GEORGETTE CHEN
Born on: October 1906, Zhejiang, China. Died on: March 1993, Singapore Georgette Chen was considered one of the group of artists that established the "Nanyang Style" of painting. She is most known for her still life and portraits in oils. She was awarded the Cultural Medallion in 1982 for her outstanding achievement and contribution to Singapore art. Chen’s artworks exemplify her sensitivity towards her subjects, often including people, landscape and everyday objects. As one of the pioneer artists of Singapore, Chen’s portrayal of her emotions comes through her bold use of colours, brushstrokes, and spatial arrangement.

1O. LIU KANG (SINGAPORE)
Liu’s mastery in portraying people and their way of life is exemplified in his
expressive brushstrokes, pictorial balance and treatment of the human forms.
Known as one of the pioneer artists of Singapore, his works have had a
strong influence on the artistic identity of Singapore.

11. AFFANDI (INDONESIA)
Expressionistic Paintings. Newfound style known as "squeezing the tube“

13. NAM JUNE PAIK (USA)
The complexity of contemporary culture preoccupies the artworks of Paik. His
experimental use of television screens, music and elements of American culture and
Zen Buddhism, forms a dynamic and interactive style of art.

14. WASSILY KANDINSKY (RUSSIA)
The compositions of lines and flat geometric shapes in Kandinsky’s abstract
paintings express his belief in using basic elements of art to bring out the essence
of music. His introduction of abstract elements gave art a new meaning as a means
of expression.

15. CONSTANTIN BRANCUSI (ROMANIA)
Constantin Brâncuși was a Romanian sculptor, painter and photographer who
made his career in France. Considered a pioneer of modernism, one of the most
influential sculptors of the 20th-century, Brâncuși is called the patriarch of modern
sculpture.

16. ANDY WARHOL(USA)
Andrew Warhol was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art.
His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisement that flourished by the 1960s.
After a successful career as a commercial illustrator, Warhol became a renowned and sometimes controversial artist.

Campbell's Soup Cans, which is sometimes referred to as 32
Campbell's Soup Cans, is a work of art produced in 1962 by
Andy Warhol.
17. HAN SAI POR (SINGAPORE)
Han is probably best known for her stone sculptures with organic forms; she
sees her sculpture has having "a force or inner life inside struggling to get
out".[30] Having a preference for granite and marble,[5] she has said:
"Stone is one of my favourite materials. In the erosion of rock by wind and
water are found original, vital qualities which express the significance of
life."

18. CHUAH THEAN TENG (MALAYSIA)
Although batik painting has been around for hundreds of years, it is remarkable that no one before Teng had ever thought of adapting this age-old craft as a medium of fine art. Teng first started in this medium in 1953 and therefore he can be considered the father of Batik Painting in Malaysia. According to Frank Sullivan, his productivity in batik painting is enormous...never satisfied, he is always experimenting, seeking to give new depth and range to his batik art ( ' Teng, Master of Batik '-exhibition catalogue, Commonwealth Institute of Art, London 1965).

19. THOMAS HEATHERWICK
Thomas Alexander Heatherwick was born 17 February 1970. He is
an English designer and the founder of London-based design practice
Heatherwick Studio. Since the late 1990s Heatherwick has emerged as one
of Britain’s most gifted and imaginative designers. His innovative approach
to design has earned him a reputation as an "ideas engine"

20. REI KAWAKUBO
Rei Kawakubo, (born October 11, 1942, Tokyo, Japan), self-
taught Japanese fashion designer known for her avant-garde
clothing designs and her high fashion label, Comme des
Garçons (CDG), founded in 1969.

21. PAUL RAND
PAUL RAND (BORN PERETZ ROSENBAUM, AUGUST 15, 1914 – NOVEMBER 26, 1996) was a well-known American graphic designer, best known for his corporate logo designs. Rand was educated at the Pratt Institute (1929-1932), the Parsons School of Design (1932-1933), and the Art Students League (1933-1934). He was one of the originators of the Swiss Style of graphic design. From 1956 to 1969, and beginning again in 1974, Rand taught design at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Rand was inducted into the New York Art Directors Club Hall of Fame in 1972. He designed many posters and corporate identities, including the logos for IBM, UPS and ABC.

22. TAKASHI MURAKAMI Born on 01 February 1962, Itabashi, Tokyo City, Tokyo, Japan. Murakami uses
imageries, which are influenced by the flat stylistic traditions of Japanese
graphic art, animation and consumer pop culture, in his drawings, paintings
and sculptures. The simplified yet bold use of shapes and colours make his
artworks appealing to art collectors and consumers.

Richard Avedon was an American fashion and portrait photographer. An
obituary published in The New York Times said that "his fashion and portrait
photographs helped define America's image of style, beauty and culture for
the last half-century".

24. MARCEL DUCHAMP
Marcel Duchamp was born July 28, 1887, in France. After the sensation
caused by •Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2• (1912), he painted few other
pictures. He became famous for his "ready-mades" and heralded an artistic
revolution. Largely ignored during his lifetime, he was in his 70s when he
emerged as master whose entirely new attitude toward art and society
changed the future of visual arts.
