The club
The Northern Districts Cricket Club (NDCC) through quality structure and environment provides an opportunity for cricketers to compete to their highest potential.
The pathway to the top (i.e. to represent Australia) is to progress through the junior and senior levels of Community cricket (e.g. clubs and schools in the NDCC zone) to Grade cricket in the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) to playing for South Australia (SA – the Redbacks) and ultimately to represent Australia at international level.
The club entered the SACA competition in the 1997-98 season following the amalgamation of the Elizabeth and Salisbury District Cricket Clubs.
NDCC consistently provides players to represent SA in senior and junior levels. Darren Lehmann and Graham Manou have represented Australia in Test cricket while Mark Cosgrove and Ryan Harris have represented Australia in limited overs cricket. Lindsay Reeler and Joanne Broadbent have represented Australia in women’s cricket.
Mission statement
To establish and maintain formal links with the community associations in our club zone
To assist cricketers with their development
To facilitate their progression to play at the highest possible level

Craig Haines Memorial Trust
Established in 1997, the Craig Haines Memorial Trust honours the memory of Craig Haines, a promising young cricketer who at the age of 20 was tragically shot and killed in a service station robbery. Craig had represented SA at under age level and was heading towards selection in the senior state Redbacks squad. Scholarships provided to young cricketers enable them to gain experience overseas and therefore assist other young players in the club upon their return. Financial assistance given to players who represent the state at underage and women’s levels and to country players who participate at Grade cricket level, for partial reimbursement of fuel costs.

Spirit of cricket:
Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to it being played within its laws and within the Spirit of the Game. Any action that abuses this spirit causes injury to the game itself. The major responsibility of fair play rests with the captains.
1. There are two Laws that place the responsibility for the teams conduct firmly on the captain.
Responsibility of captains The captains are responsible at all times for ensuring that play is conducted within the Spirit of the Game as well as within the Laws.
Players conduct In the event of a player failing to comply with instructions by an umpire, or criticising by word or action the decisions of an umpire, or showing dissent, or generally behaving in a manner which might bring the game into disrepute, the umpire concerned shall in the first place report the matter to the other umpire and to the player’s captain and instruct the latter to take action.
2. Fair and unfair play According to the Laws the umpires are the sole judges of faier and unfair play.
The umpires may intervene at any time and it is the responsibility of the captain to take action where required.
3. The umpires are authorised to intervene in cases of:
Time wasting
Damaging the pitch
Dangerous or unfair bowling
Tampering with the ball
Any other action that they consider to be unfair.
4. The Spirit of the Game involves respect for:
Your opponents
Your own captain and team
The role of the umpire
Northern Districts Cricket Club 8
www.northern-jets.com
The game’s traditional values
5. It is against the Spirit of the Game:
To dispute an umpire’s decision by word, action or gesture
To direct abusive language towards an opponent or umpire
To indulge in cheating or any sharp practice, for instance; o To appeal knowing that the batsman is not out o To advance towards an umpire in an aggressive manner when
appealing o To seek to distract an opponent either verbally or by harassment
with persistent clapping or unnecessary noise under the guise of enthusiasm and motivation of one’s own side.
6. Violence There is no place for any act of violence on the field of play
7. Players Captains and umpires together set the tone for the conduct of a cricket match. Every player is expected to make an important contribution to this.
Cricket etiquette
Pre game:
Home team captain should always have a coin that they toss. Opposition captain calls
Captains must wear whites when they toss the coin
Captains are to shake hands before and after a game
The toss of the coin must be 20 minutes before scheduled commencement of play
12th man must be dressed in whites. If there are only 11 in the a team (i.e. no 12th man) the batting side must have someone in whites at all times
Each team should have appropriate warm up attire, club warm up gear or whites.
During the game:
All players should be aware that the umpires walk out on to the ground first, the fielding team then takes to the field and then the batters come out
9 Northern Districts Cricket Club
www.northern-jets.com
When coming off the field, the batters always walk off first, followed by the fielding team
At the beginning of an innings, the umpires drop a new ball just inside the boundary. The person that normally picks up the new ball is either the captain or the wicketkeeper
The captain leads the team onto the ground
Some teams make all players wear the team cap for the first session
Players must respect the decision of the umpire. It is the role of each player, as well as the captain, to ensure this respect is maintained
Do not appeal for decisions that you do not believe are out
Do not place umpires under undue pressure, particularly when appealing
There is a fine line between gamesmanship and sledging, beware not to cross this line
All players must be well organized and look like cricketers
Bowlers and fielders should use markers instead of digging up the ground
Fielding teams should always acknowledge 50s and 100s by opposition batters
Respect other cricketers
Messages to the captain or other players are to be sent via the 12th man, not called from the sidelines
The batting team should sit together on the sidelines
It is the obligation of the batting team to maintain the scoreboard
After the game:
As part of each players cricket education it is important to stay in the change rooms for a short period after each game, This time is to discuss the game with your team mates and opposition

To identify, foster and develop junior cricketers to give them the opportunity advance to play State and International cricket
Support club (and coaches) vision of being a RESPECTED and SUCCESSFUL club within the South Australian cricket community and retain our status as the elite cricket club of the Northern area. Policy
The Ray Sutton Shield team and U12 DS objective is for young cricketers to learn the game. Selection in these squads is not a precursor to Under 14 selection
Coaches will be aware of and support NDCC junior policy at all times
Coaches will be accredited and have successful senior cricket experience at Grade level
Coaches and managers will be jointly involved in selecting awards at the conclusion of each match for presentation at the club. Players and parents are encouraged to be at the club as often as possible
We can win in junior games regardless of the result – by giving all players the opportunity to develop rather than focusing on premierships
We promote an attitude where winning is supported, but not to the detriment of the development of young cricketers
Parents are actively encouraged to support managers and coaches at all times, a roster for volunteer assistance will be provided to all players/parents as early as possible in the season
The club will support the coaches and not tolerate parent negativity if coaches support club policy
Junior cricketers will follow player guidelines that support the positive representation of the NDCC at all times. Behaviour not supportive of coaches and guidelines will not be tolerated
Raise serious grievances with the coach or team manager (note that this is for serious grievances only – the player is to communicate with the coach in all other situations). If there is dissatisfaction with the outcome the Junior Cricket Director can be approached. If not resolved to mutual satisfaction, submit the grievance in writing to the Junior Cricket Director who will present it to the senior committee. The decision of the senior committee will be binding
