1. PRESENTATION

The Library at the University of Navarra offers its users a bibliographical collection of over one million volumes, including a wide range of electronic resources. The opening hours are extensive, and the Library is equipped with all the necessary facilities: seminars and group study rooms, large areas covered by wi-fi , and an increasing number of computers, printers, scanners, etc. These pages comprise details of access requirements, services, opening hours, facilities, locations and the most important information about the Library. In addition to access to the catalog and many other resources and services, the website supplies more detailed information. On behalf of all the team who work in the Library at the University of Navarra, my very best wishes to all those who surf these pages. 2. ACCESS TO THE SERVICES

To use the Library services, users must have a University card. It will be provided in a different location according to the type of user:

· Students, postgraduates, MA students: General Offi ces.· Lecturers and staff: Human Resources Service. · Alumni Navarrensis members: Bibliographic Information Desk

(new Humanities Library building).· Faculty guests: Head of Department who vouched them.

3. CAMPUS LIBRARIES

3.1. Humanities Library

It locates the different departments of the Library which are in charge of the management of the bibliographic collection and its processing. The following rooms are also there:

· Newspaper Room: 58 seats available. For users carrying out research with newspapers and periodicals, it contains general information and the offi cial gazettes and periodicals collection.

· Multimedia Room: 22 seats available. It contains DVDs, VHS videos, cassettes, vinyl records, CD-ROM, microfi che, etc., with appropriate playback facilities.

· Researchers Room: 615 seats available and 9 seminar rooms are available to users. For the exclusive use of researchers (lecturers, postgraduates, etc.), it covers the Law, Humanities and Social Science bibliographic collection.

· Undergraduates Room: 491 seats available and 12 computers for bibliographic searches and requests. It contains the recommended reading lists of the different subject areas together with the books most frequently used by students.

· Group Study Room: 18 seats available for a maximum of 3 groups.· Reference Room: 72 seats available. It contains all the general-content items

(dictionaries, encyclopedias, index collections, etc).· Special Collections Room: It is provided with 12 seats and a reference collection.

It offers items that require special care because of their antiquity or value: printed items previous to 1835, items of notable interest, dedicated items, drawings, engravings, etc.

· Repository: It contains less-used books and periodicals.

3.2. Science Library

672 seats available and 80 computers according to the following:

· Silent Study Area: 504 individual work seats, as well as 20 computer workstations. It contains the bibliographic collection of Experimental Sciences, divided in two areas: one for the Recommended Reading list of the different subjects and another one for Research books and periodicals.

· Group Study Rooms: 13 (total capacity 84 seats), for group work and preparation of presentations.

· Researchers Room: 32 seats for the exclusive use of researchers of Experimental Sciences (lecturers, postgraduates, etc.)

· Computer Room: 32 computer workstations. It is intended for online search of scientifi c information and can be reserved for classes and seminars.

· Repository: It contains less-used books and periodicals.· Lockers: 40 lockers available for lecturers and researchers and 64 lockers for students.

3.3. Architecture Library

35 seats available. It locates the materials related to the Architecture studies. There is a Researchers and an Undergraduates Room.

3.4. Ecclesiastical Studies Library

99 seats available. There is a room for lecturers, researchers and students which lo-cates the materials related to the Ecclesistical studies areas.

3.5. University Hospital Library

It is situated on the 8th fl oor of the University Hospital. Equipped with 40 desks and a book and periodical collection for the use of medical staff and researchers who also have access to the bibliographic collection of the University Science Library.

4.1 Search, Access and Information Management

UNIKA

It is the new searcher that includes the different library information resources (Catalog, Sabio, Dadun y online databases) and facilitates access to hundred million of documents (books, journal and press articles, audiovisuals, etc).

CATALOG SEARCH

Through the library webpage users can check the Library catalog for the item they need, check its availability, make online requests for non-direct access books, reserve loaned items, etc. Through “My Library Account” users can also renew loaned items up to three times without having to go to the Library.

Web search of online resources in Sabio

SABIO (Online Access and information search System)

Sabio is the access portal to the Library electronic resources:

Sabio includes:

· Quick search: uses pre-selected search terms.· Metasearch: searches resources selected by the user. · Electronic Journals Search: locates all electronic journals subscribed to by the

University of Navarra and a selection of free journals.· Electronic Resources Search: searches and accesses different electronic resources

(databases, e-journals portals, e-books portals, codes of conduct, etc.) · Articles and e-books locator: starting with a bibliographic citation it locates full-text

journal articles or e-books.· Electronic Journal and book Portals: provides access to the original interfaces of

e-journal and e-book portals subscribed to by the Library. · My Portal: users can process their own information and resources in their own way.

Sabio offers access to the full text if the electronic version is available; or else offers a search of the Library catalogue to check if the printed version is available. If not, it can be used to request the document through the interlibrary loan application form. DADUN (Universidad de Navarra Digital Academic Repository)

Dadun is the open access institutional repository that collects, preserves and disseminates papers refl ecting academic and scientifi c activity at the University of Navarra. It facilitates the long-term availability of documents, because they are stored in one place, as well as document visibility because its document has a permanent URL which makes online searchers easier, thus enhancing its public availability. To deposit documents in Dadun you must register on “My Dadun”, entering e-mail address and password and e-mail the administrator to obtain permission to include the publications in the university´s repository.

Dadun is organized into seven major areas:

· Academic Repository · General Archive· Teaching Materials · Special Collections· University of Navarra Journals and Serials · Doctoral Theses

The Library has created a blog called “Open access scientifi c research” to publish news related to the institutional archive and the open access policy.http://unavdadun.wordpress.com/(in Spanish).

REFWORKS

Online tool that allows you to import organize, share and export bibliographic refe-rences so that you can afterwards use them when writing an article or scientifi c paper, giving them the appropriate bibliographic format in seconds.

RefWorks includes:

· Direct import of Bibliographic References: for example from the Library catalogue and from selected databases references to RefWorks.

· Manage and Share References: it allows you to organize, edit and view database references, to searchin any fi eld, and create indexes of authors, journals and descriptors.

· Attach fi les to the References: pdf, gif, jpg, ppt ...· Compile of a Bibliography: it has hundreds of bibliographical styles for drawing up

a bibliography, as well as creating your own bibliographic format on the basis of an existing one.

· Write in Cite: it allows users of Microsoft Word (and other word processors) to cite references from an article by just pressing a key.

· RefShare: you can share the bibliographic references from your folders. It is an ideal tool for adding thematic bibliographies to a website or providing a permanent link to a bibliography published by a particular department or researcher.

*The Library has a collection of books in a section called “Read at Home” (shelf-mark PLC), which covers a wide range of genres: fi ction, poetry, biographies, historical novels, detective novels, classics, etc. This collection is available in the Undergraduates Room in the Humanities Library, in the Architecture Library and in the Science Library. There is also a similar section in English in the Science Library at the ENG shelf-mark, including books by classic authors such as Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, and modern writers such as John Grisham, Tom Clancy and Henning Mankell.

Books should be loaned and returned at the Issue Desk (or book boxes). Loans are personal and are made on presentation of a valid Library card or authorised card. All items are available for loan except: reference material (except in the Humanities Researchers Room, for use in the room only through the auto-loan system), printed items between 15th and 19th century, frequent-use editions and collections in rooms, special materials, journals, newspapers, etc.

Auto-Loan

In the Researchers Room in the Humanities Library there are easy to use “Auto-loan Machines”. Every time a book is taken from the shelf in that room to take it to a table, the Auto-loan Machine should be used. The item will then appear in the catalog as borrowed, facilitating the updating of books information at all times.In the Science Library books can be issued directly from the Auto-loan machine to take home.

Intersite Loans

This service offers the possibility for books and scanned journal articles to be sent from the Humanities Library to the Science-University Hospital libraries and vice versa. This service is available for lecturers, researchers, postgraduates and staff. The request is made through the Library catalogue. Items are collected from the appropriate issue desk, on receiving email notifi cation. Contact: [email protected]

Interlibrary Loan

This service is for members of the university who require documents from other libraries; and for external centres or institutions which require documents from the University of Navarra. Document receipt is by post, e-mail and delivery service, mostly by e-mail in PDF format, with an average delivery time of between 24 and 72 hours. It is situated on the ground fl oor of the Humanities Library building and also in the Science Library. Contact: [email protected]

4.3 Information and Customer Services

One to One Information

There are several information desks attended by Library staff, where users can request and receive information. This service can be done face to face or through the different email addresses that the Library provides for that purpose. There are two seminar rooms (2B and 4B) in the Researchers Room at the Humanities Library staffed by librarians whose role is to respondto user questions and requests. There is also a general Library email where users can write with any suggestions or queries. Contact: [email protected]

User training

The Library organises information literacy sessions and other activities to familiarize users with the running, services and resources of their Library. So that users can acquire and develop expertise in the use of the information resources, a “Training Plan”, adjusted to the different types of users, is run throughout the academic year. At the beginning of the academic year, all fi rst-year students have sessions about using the Library.

On demand Sessions: Users can complete an online application form to request a specifi c training session. The Library can prepare individual or group information literacy sessions about a specifi c subject, about online products or related to special needs. Librarians specialized in different subject areas liaise between the library service and the various Schools/Departments with regard to training sessions in the use of library resources, material purchases, bibliographical consultation, etc.

They can also provide support and advice for the ANECA accreditation process. An evaluation and accreditation website: http://www.unav.es/biblioteca/evaluacion/ has been set up to provide members of faculty with the information required by ANECA criteria.

The Library webpage offers a selection of Subject Area Resources, whether printed or online, from the various teaching and research subjects of the University. Its aim is to guide users to fi nd the most frequently used reference material. Newsletter

The Library publishes a Weekly Gazette aimed at lecturers, postgraduates, and researchers. Its purpose is to improve communication between the Library and its users, presenting the most relevant information for their interest. It includes the new bibliographic acquisitions incorporated to the Library in the week previous to the publication of the gazette. To receive the gazette weekly, follow the link on the main Library webpage and complete a simple form. The same link offers access the content of previous gazettes. FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions)

The Library has listed some Frequently Asked Questions or FAQ´s on the Library webpage. 4.4. Other services

Acquisitions and donations The development of the University of Navarra Library Collection depends mainly on Subject Librarians, who decide together with lecturers, which titles within their fi eld, should be acquired charged into their budgets. In each faculty there are one or two people in charge of checking and approving the applications made and of forwarding them to the Subject Librarian. Students can suggest the purchase of new titles or more copies of the existing ones, either by contacting the Library staff in their faculties or by sending an email to: [email protected] The University of Navarra welcomes and is grateful for donations of books and journals, which from the beginning have contributed to the bibliographical enrichment and development of the Library heritage. Recent Acquisitions

Recent acquisitions are published on the webpage weekly, including a list of all the new items acquired by the Library during the previous week. These books and magazines are displayed for a week in the Humanities Recent Acquisitions Room and in a display stand in the periodicals area of the Science Library before being shelved. Items classifi ed in the repository are not displayed in this room or stand but are included in the listing. Anyone who wishes can sign up and receive information concerning their area via email through the Weekly Gazette

Reprographics, Printers

The Library has a service for the reproduction of the items hold at the University, with teaching and research purposes, either through photocopies, printer, scanner or digitalization. The following table shows the location of the different reproduction documents equipments at the University:

Wireless local area network WI-FI

The University wireless network is an extension of the interconnected access points which allows wireless connection to the web services, email, etc., inside the buildings of the University campus. To be able to use the wireless network users should be registered to the service and confi gure the operative system of their computer. (In Spanish).http://www.unav.es/biblioteca/wifi /

Online Services

There is a website where users (both teachers and students can carry out different procedures by fi lling in online forms: seminar room reservations, interlibrary loan requests, Multimedia Room scanner bookings, loan renewals, etc.: http://www.unav.es/biblioteca/serviciosonline.html

Exhibitions Every four months the Special Collections Department prepares a virtual exhibition on the Library webpage, with the aim of making the collection more widely known. With the same frequency it also organises a physical exhibition in the new Humanities Library building hall.
