What is Shipboard Training?

is the one year practicum component of the four-year BSMT/BSMarE course, which must be completed if the cadet is to acquire a BSMT or a BSMarE degree

generally it is undertaken if the cadet has completed the three year academic requirement

Who are qualified to undergo shipboard training of the CU-CME?

BSMT/BSMarE Cadets who have finished the three year academic component of the 4-year BSMT or a BSMarE program

For how long must a cadet undergo shipboard training?

12 months or 1 year; 6 months of which must be spent on supervised Bridge Watchkeeping Duties for Deck Cadets and Engine Watchkeeping for Engine Cadets

Who is in charge of the Shipboard Training Program in the CU-CME?

This program is supervised by a Shipboard Training Officer (STO) duly designated by the University Administration from among the licensed and qualified faculty of the CU-CME

The STO is supported by an STO Secretary and assisted by a staff in the management of the Shipboard Training Program

What are the specific requirements for Shipboard Training?

To be eligible for Shipboard Training, the CU-CME cadet must:◦Have a completed the three academic

years of the BSMT/BSMarE Program◦Have qualified and have been

accepted in the Cadetship Program of Shipping/Manning Company

◦Have undergone briefing and orientation conducted by the Shipboard Training Officer (STO)

What are the documentary requirements for Shipboard Training?

The first group is called Basic Documentary Requirements and consist of the following:1. Certificate of Academic

Requirements(CAR)2. Transcript of Records(TOR)3. Certification/Authentication and

Verification from CHED(CAV)4. Basic Safety Training Certificates from

Accredited Training Center(SOLAS)5. Seaman’s Identification and Record

Book(SIRB)

The second and final set of documents are the following:1. Contract of Employment with the

Shipping/Manning Company2. Particulars of the ship boarded on

or will be boarding3. Contact address of the

Shipping /Manning Company4. And an accomplished copy of the

CU-QMS-STO-12 available from the STO

In what vessels may the Shipboard Training be undertaken?

In any commercial vessel as defined by RA 8544, domestic or foreign, as long as such vessel is NOT LESS THAN 500 GROSS TONS for Deck Cadets or NOT LESS THAN 750 KW for Engine Cadets

How does a CU-CME cadet qualify in the Cadetship Program of Shipping/Manning Companies?

The CU-CME cadet must take and pass the qualifying examinations and interviews of the Shipping/Manning Companies/Agencies including medical, psychological, drug and eyesight examination tests.

When is the CU-CME cadet considered graduated from the BSMT / BSME Program?

A cadet is considered a graduate of the BSMT / BSMarE Course the moment one complies with all the requirements of the shipboard Training Program, as certified by the Superintendent/Dean and is declared by college registrar as having fully complied with all the academic requirement of the course

What are the benefits acquired by the CU-CME cadet as a result of his BSMT/BSMarE Graduation?

The Cadet is Entitled to ◦1. Diploma◦2. One may qualify to take the PRC

licensure examination for OIC Deck/Engine License Officers/Engineers
