The project successfully provided jobs for over 150 unemployed citizens, addresses the root problem of idle waste leading to health concerns among villagers, and enhances the overall appearance of the communities. The mission’s end-state is a safer, more clean environment for the citizens to take pride and ownership in.

WHAT: 2-2 IAB conducts training with C/1-30 on reacting to a civil disturbance

WHY /SIGNIFICANCE: Elements of 2-2 IAB conducted training on reacting to a civil disturbance. The purpose of the training was to provide the trainees with an understanding of less-than-lethal methods for controlling potentially violent situations. Trainers from C/1-30 gave instruction and demonstrations on handling unarmed protesters, and then ran the 2-2 IAB soldiers through a similar practical exercise. Because the majority of their training to this point has been focused on lethal response to violence, this class will help to give the soldiers from 2-2 IAB a better understanding of the full spectrum of conflict. This training may prove to be especially important in light of the upcoming elections and the potential for unrest. If that situation should come, the soldiers of 2-2 IAB will be prepared to respond independently and effectively

BULLETIZED: 2-2 IAB receives training in managing a civil disturbance with less-than-lethal force. The training is successfully conducted and the knowledge gained by IA soldiers is evident.

C/1-30 trainer and interpreter explain the task and purpose of the training

WHO: Iraqi Newspaper “Alanba’a”

WHERE: Distribution in Muqdadiyah and Baquba

WHAT: Local newspaper articles advocate for a secure electoral environment.

WHY/SIGNIFICANCE: The newspaper featured articles written by prominent Iraqis, encouraging a peaceful election. Contributors include the Mayor of Muqdadiyah, a local political scientist, and even young patriotic artists. In addition, the various articles and illustrations in the paper all insist on national unity, rejecting the insurgent rats, and creating a secure electoral environment. As the diversity of the contributors proves, Iraqis from all walks of life are committed to the constitutional process; not only as an institution of government, but also as an expression of their most deeply-held democratic values.

Also, a humorous cartoon portraying insurgents as foreign donkeys and rats provides levity.
