Valverdi 20mm external porcelain tiles are ideal for swimming pool surroundsAll�our�20mm�tiles�have�R11�slip�resistance*�with�barefoot�slip�ratings�of�C*�which�makes�them�ideal�for�pool�surrounds�and�changing�areas.�Our�high�quality�vitrified�porcelain�tiles�all�have�water�absorbency�rates�much�lower than the required standards of below half of one percent, which makes them totally frost proof and highly resistant�to�stains�and�algal�growth.�The�tiles�are�all�classified�as�Class�A�resistant�to�chemicals�and�will�shrug�off�pool chemicals and acids.

Valverdi Profiling ServiceWe�offer�a�profiling�service�on�all�Valverdi�tiles,�allowing�you�to�create�the�perfect�finish�for�your�project.�Many�different�types�of�profiling�are�available��—�the�most�common�profiles�that�we�offer�are�bull�nose�and�half�bull�nose�finishes,�with�or�without�anti�slip�grooves.�Profiling�is�used�to�create�tiles�for�steps, pool edgings, copings and skirting, and tiles can also be cut with holes for�lighting�or�drainage.�We�carry�out�profiling�from�our�stock,�ensuring�that�the�shade�of�your�profiled�pieces�matches�the�rest�of�your�tiles.�Please�allow�at�least�6�weeks�for�the�profiling�to�be�completed�as�the�process�is�extremely�labour�intensive�due�to�the�hard�nature�of�Valverdi�porcelain.

Pedestal MethodThe�pedestal�system�allows�for�quick�and�easy�installation,�and�involves�fixing�pedestals�below�the�tiles�to�support�them.�Laid�without�a�filled�joint,�the water will drain to the surface below using the established falls of the balcony�or�roof�terrace.�Valverdi�offers�a�series�of�pedestals�to�provide�a�flexible�tiling�installation�solution.�Our�pedestals�have�different�heights,�ranging�from�28mm�to�215mm,�with�the�option�to�extend�up�to�550mm using�a�combination�of�extension�pieces.

Adhesive MethodValverdi Indoor-Out 20mm porcelain can be laid directly onto a cured reinforced�concrete�base�using�suitable�polymer�modified�cement-based�tile�adhesive.�The�tiles�must�be�laid�into�a�solid�bed�with�no�voids.�Appropriate�expansion�joints�should�be�incorporated�through�the�concrete�slab�and�against�perimeter�structures�as�required.�The�concrete�screed�should�be�laid�with appropriate falls to allow for drainage.

PorcelQuick AdpedsThis�method�involves�creating�a�series�of�‘adhesive�pedestals’�using�Adpeds�filled�with�a�mix�of�sand�and�cement.�The�tiles�are�then�fixed�to�these�using�a suitable adhesive, and the joints are grouted using Grout Backer Rod. The�PorcelQuick�system�provides�an�up�to�80%�reduction�in�the�materials�needed, as well as reducing the carbon footprint and installation time.

The�Inclined�Ramp�Test�is�a�tiled�ramp�that�is�lubricated�and�gradually�inclined�to�find�the�slipping�angle�of�the�tile.�The�subject�wears�shoes�with�a�standardised�rubber�sole.

R11slip resistance

Before selecting a tile based on its slip resistance characteristics, the following points should be noted: No tile is slip proof. Floors�should�be�kept�as�clean�and�dry�as�possible. Where�necessary�install�hand�rails�(for�example�on�ramps).

Look for R-ratings throughout the Valverdi collection.

Rectified�tiles�have�had�their�edges�diamond�ground�to�create�very�straight�and�even�edges�with�precise�tile�dimensions.�Non-rectified�tiles�will�have�variations�in�size�and�a�less�precise�edge�that�will�require�a�wider�grout�joint.�Rectified�tiles�can�be�laid�with�a�narrower�joint�to�create�a�clean�and�seamless�look.�All�valverdi�tiles�are�rectified.

Look for an R in the top left corner of the tile image to indicate whether the tile is rectified.

��Provides�an�even�and�symmetrical�look. Allows you to use very narrow grout lines.��Creates�a�seamless�look.��

All�Valverdi�ranges�have�some�colour�variability�and�differential�shading�within�and�between�the�tiles.�As�many�of�our�tiles�are�inspired�by�natural�materials�such�as�stone�and�wood,�there�will�be�differences�in�colour�and�pattern�throughout�each�batch.�Bear�this�in�mind�when�ordering�samples,�particularly�100x100mm�cut�samples, as your sample may not fully represent the colour and patterning within the tile. If you are unsure, please contact your supplier for a photograph of their current stock.

Will Valverdi Indoor-Out Porcelain fade?No, the product is completely colour-fast.

Can you lay 9/10mm porcelain outdoors?Technically�yes,�but�we�do�NOT�recommend�you�do�this.�To�be�successful you would have to lay it onto a de-coupling layer onto a�cured�and�reinforced�concrete�bed�and�incorporate�expansion�joints as required. Additionally, the internal tiles do not have the enhanced�slip-resistance of�the�20mm.�The�external�environment�is much tougher on a tile than in the house and the 20mm tile is designed�to�cope�with�outdoor�elements�such�as�children’s�bikes,�gardening�equipment�and�differential�solar�expansion�between�the tile and the concrete bed. We recommend using the 20mm tile externally�and�the�9/10mm�tile internally.

Can Valverdi Indoor-Out tiles be used on balconies and roof terraces?Absolutely! By laying onto support pedestals they can quickly and easily�transform�your�roof�terrace�or balcony.

Are the tiles value for money?Valverdi Indoor-Out tiles represent fantastic value for money as they�will�outlast�you�and�should�never�need replacing.�

Will a hard winter damage the outdoor tiles?No, they are completely frost-proof.

How can I avoid lipping when installing oblong tiles?Most�tiles�will�have�a�slight�bow�along�their�length�due�to�the�firing�process,�which�is�more�obvious�in�oblong�or�plank�tiles.�This�can�be accentuated by certain laying patterns, but can be avoided by increasing�the�joint�width�and�choosing�a�stack�bond�or�1/3�broken�bond�pattern.�Lay�the�tiles�out�before�fixing�to�determine�the�best�pattern�and�joint�width�to�avoid�lipping�issues.�Laying�your�tiles�out�will also help you to check the colouring and pattern before laying.

Do you need to seal Valverdi Indoor-Out Porcelain?The�tiles�do�not�require�sealing,�however�we�strongly�recommend�using�BAL�Protective�Sealer�prior�to�grouting.�Warmer�weather�can�cause�grout�to�flash�dry�and�leave�an�invisible�and�extremely�hard�to clean polymer coating on the tile. Using a protective sealer will save time during the grouting process, improve the look of the grouting and help prevent a polymer coat drying on the surface of the tiles.

Will Valverdi Indoor-Out Porcelain scratch?Valverdi Indoor-Out porcelain is incredibly hard to scratch, making it

suitable�for�both�domestic�and�commercial�applications.�Don’t�take�our word for it though, order a sample and try to scratch it!

How do you look after the tiles?To�keep�them�looking�good,�just�sweep�and�occasionally�clean�with�a�damp�mop�and�LTP�External�Paving�Cleaner.�To�remove�scuff�marks�or�to�spring�clean�winter�dirt�use�Lithofin�Intensive�Cleaner.�The�tiles�are�completely�unaffected�by�jet washing.

Are the tiles slip resistant?Yes.�The�internal�tile�has�good�slip�resistance�and�the�20mm�has�added�HD�slip�resistance�to�cope�with�outdoor elements.

Will they stain or discolour?No,�the�product�is�non-porous�and�therefore�resistant�to staining.�Additionally, due to the tiles non-pourous nature, algae will not affect�the surface.

How accurate is the sizing of tiles?All�sizes�detailed�in�the�brochure�are�nominal�(approximate).�After�manufacture�Valverdi�porcelain�tiles�are�rectified�to�the�same�size,�but�this�can�vary�between�different�production�runs�(batches).�Indoor and outdoor tiles are made on separate production runs so sizing�of�indoor�and�outdoor�tiles�can�vary.�Please�contact�us�if�you�have any questions regarding the sizing of your tiles.

What is the minimum grout width?You should use a minimum 2mm grout width with the indoor tiles and�4mm�for�the�outdoor�tile.�

Can I link the Indoor and Outdoor grout lines?Most of the time this is possible, however the indoor and outdoor tiles�can�be�rectified�to�slightly�different�sizes,�so�please�call�our�stockists�to�check�current�batch�sizing.�The�alternative�is�to�break�the bond between indoor and outdoor.

What is the difference between rectified and non-rectified tiles?When�porcelain�tiles�are�made�they�are�fired�at�very�high�temperatures in advanced kilns. However, when they leave the kiln�the�tiles�will�all�be�slightly�different�sizes�due�to�different�shrinkage�rates.�At�Valverdi�we�ensure�all�our�tiles�are�rectified,�a�process where their edges are ground to precise dimensions so size�variations�between�tiles�within�a�batch�will�be�very�small.�This�allows you to use a much narrower joint to give a clean, precise and contemporary�grout�joint.�If�you�choose�tiles�that�are�non-rectified�you will have to use much wider grout joints and lose that clean contemporary look you have tried to achieve.
