Qr codes

What is a Qr code?QR codes (short for Quick Read codes) are matrix barcodes (2D codes) which can be read by smartphones. Youcanusethemtoconnectcustomersfromyourofflinemarketingmaterialstoinformation,entertainment, and interactive experiences on their smartphones. These mobile interactions let people engage with your product and identify with your brand the moment they encounter your message.

A QR code can be included within a full or half page ad.

Half pageAs half page ads are standardised and follow a set template, all QR codes will sit over the image in the bottom left hand corner. All QR codes will also appear at 16mm x 16mm, which is readable by the recommended QR reader ‘MicrosoftTag’.ThiswillaidthevisitorexperiencebyensuringthattheyalwaysknowwheretofindaQRcodeifit is present.

tips1. Always include a white border or ‘quiet zone’

QRcodesrequirea‘quietzone’aroundthemargin.Thisspacemusthaveaminimumwidthorheightequal to four modules (the individual dark or light squares displayed within the barcode matrix).

2. Tell readers how to access the QR code Destination Melbourne provides messaging in the Official Visitor Guide instructing consumers to download the Microsoft Tag App. It is important to remember that QR codes may be unfamiliar to some consumers. It is recommended that you clearly note in your advertisement what kind of content is behind the code so consumers know what to expect when scanning. For instance, ‘Scan the QR code in this ad to view ourvideo’or‘ScantheQRcodeinthisadtodownloadaninstantlyredeemablecoupon’.

3. Optimize for mobile BesurethatwhateverexperienceyourQRcodeprovides,itisoptimizedforthemobileenvironment.Linkingusers to standard websites is likely to frustrate them since they are viewing the site on the small screen of their mobile phone.

4. create a compelling experience Add value that gives visitors a good reason to scan. Examples include; useful product information, engaging videos,exclusivedeals,upgrades,acoupon,orotherpurchaseincentive.Andmakeitinteractive–havethementeracompetition,click‘Like’or‘Share’,requestaproductsample,orsomeothercalltoaction.

Destination Melbourne will provide you with a link to an Adobe form in a material reminder. This form will detail all of the information required from you for your listing in the Smartphone & iPad App.

To submit your material you will need to follow a few simple steps:

1. EnsurethatyouhavethelatestversionofthefreeAdobeReader.Ifyoudon’tthendownloadthelatestversionbyclicking on the link provided in the material reminder email.

2. Once the latest version of Adobe Reader has been installed, click on the link to the Adobe form in the material reminder email.

3. Youwillbetakentothefollowingwebscreen.Pleaseclickonthe‘download’buttonandsavethefiletoyourcomputer. Note:Itisimportantto‘download’theformtoensureformfunctionscorrectly.Ifthe‘open’buttonisclickedyouwillnot be able to use certain fields or submit the form to Destination Melbourne.

4. Once downloaded, open the pdf document. Below is a screen shot of how the form will appear.

ClientsallneedtofillinanAdobeformwhichcontainsalltherequirements for the Smartphone & iPad App. Specifications for the listings are very particular as there is only limited space available on a Smartphone or iPad screen.

Adobe forms are to be completed and proofed by the client prior to submitting electronically. Please note that Adobe will not allow you to submittheformifallfieldsaren’tcompletedinthemanneradvised. Highresolutionimagesofthecorrectadvisedsizeandorientationwillthen need to be emailed separately to the material contact. This will appear along with the copy in the listing.

Note: Responsibility lies with the client to proof the content being supplied prior to submitting the Adobe form.
