“…Although there are processes to aid privacy such as di-identification, where data is made anonymous (Minelli, 2013; Rongxing, 2014), these privacy measures are not without their flaws. For example, when AOL released an anonymous data set from 20,000 search queries across 657,000 users by using analytic tools, the users could be re-identified (Bottles, 2014).

As more and more data is collected about individuals, making the data anonymous becomes more difficult (Tene, 2013) and it would seem that current privacy measures are not sustainable against big data (Ronxing, 2014; McNeely, 2014).

Furthermore, it is argued that making the data anonymous removes the contextual information – data, which can be valuable to the person analysing it (Minelli, 2013)...”
