Unreliable design may cause safety concern

Page 30: 1-Year Payback on LED Lighting Retrofit? - FEFPA...1-Year Payback on LED Lighting Retrofit? Brevard Public Schools Starts 5-Year Program Bruce Lindsay, PE, CEM Brevard Public Schools

Safety Concerns Type “A” and “B”

• Concerns with having similar Type A and Type B products under the same roof ?

Potential that the lamps can be inadvertently installed in the wrong fixture (i.e. ballast vs line).

• Philips has quantified the specific impacts of the following scenarios:– Philips Type A installed across 277VAC (w shunted sockets and no ballast). – Type A lamp on a type B fixture – may flash, may not come on at all, but will not cause a safety hazard.

• The same installed across 377VAC SAME as above.

Philips Type B installed with in-line ballast (w shunted sockets) Type B lamp on a type A fixture – same scenario, but still will not cause an issue.

• Confirming line voltage would have no impact? Lamp may fail/ but no other issues.–
