THE LIFE GAME® Started as an idea pinned on a board above Keith Johnstone’s desk more than 4 decades ago, the Life Game® definitively was a success in theatres in London and New York in the late nineties. A host interviews a guest on stage. One actor acts out the guest throughout the performance. A director invents scenes that cast light on the guest’s life and improvisers will play out the characters from the guest’s life, including him or her. In two hours, the guests life story will be played out / improvised, from childhood to deathbed – and beyond.
LEARNING HOW TO PLAY The delicate improvisation format demands focus and attention from improvisers to create a truthful show and take good care of the guest. This year only, Keith will teach the Life Game® format to a selection of 10 experienced improvisers in 10 days in the beautiful Rocky Mountains Banff National Park from December 10th to December 21st, 2014. During the intensive course, in an intimate setting Keith will focus exclusively on how to play the format and work through all the important dramatic details that can make the Life Game® such a valuable experience for both guest, audience and players. The whole process will be documented on film, to be preserved for future generations of improvisers who want to learn about the Life Game®
