The Bible invites each of us to a knowledge of self as wounded, for the claim of healing presupposes that we are in fact wounded creatures in need of divine treatment. In what way are we wounded? Aspects of existence are tragic. That there is world hunger, natural disasters and pandemics are all indications to us that what we experience is less than it ought to be. CS Lewis writes in The Problem of Pain : "pain would be no problem, unless, side by side with our daily experience of this painful world, we had received what we think a good assurance that ultimate reality is righteous and loving." In other words, to even acknowledge tragedy and pain presupposes a prior conception of how things ought to be. Where does this 'ought' come from? The Bible invites us to see that this 'ought' comes from a loving and righteous creator whom we have rejected. The result for us is that we are wounded and in need of divine healing. I will explore in the weeks to come how Christ's wounds bring us this healing.

Margaret’s group has beenkeeping in touch with one another throughout recent weeksand are planning to meet up as a whole group, from nextweek. My group have been meeting in pairs & onetriplet, first of all through Skype or phone conversations andthen, when rules allowed us to, we have been meeting faceto face in pairs. This is a bit of a different dynamic to awhole group but it has also been very good.

We will need a realspirit of flexibility aswe ask our members

to commit to achurch service

which may be at atime different to

what we are used to.

Returning to GatheringWith the easing of restriction in NSW from 1st July we arenow planning on how to return to our church gatherings. It isnot simple. Social distancing means that our churches willonly cater for approximately one third of their usual capacity. We will also have hand washing stations, contact tracing, andcleaning protocols to follow. Our practices within our serviceswill need to change including no congregational singing.Given this complexity I am talking to the staff and parishcouncil about a gradual return to gathering (both worshipservices and ministries) in the coming weeks and months. This week the St Alban's Wednesday congregation metsuccessfully and we had such a wonderful time together. Theweekend services are more complicated with managingcapacity so will need more thorough planning and likely moreduplication of services. This will mean that we will need a realspirit of flexibility as we ask our members to commit to achurch service which may be at a time different to what weare used to. I will advise more details in coming weeks. Moreover, with the rising cases in Victoria we need to beprepared that the NSW government may well restrict ourgatherings again.
