Our next free island tour will be on Saturday, 18 September. It departs from building 1599, Ft. Shafter Flats at 0800 and returns around 1530. Park in the gravel parking lot next to the athletic field because the gate leading to bldg 1599 will be locked when you return. The air conditioned tour bus makes a run up to Tripler for personnel. Then you will head out on Kamehameha Highway and H-2 to Wheeler Army Air Field and stop at the Schofield ACS building. Upon departure from Schofield, the bus will head toward Haleiwa, Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach, and other sites along the north shore as it heads toward the Turtle Bay Hilton Hotel in Kahuku and then to the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie. You will make a stop at a macadamia nut farm and will receive free samples of macadamia nuts and Kona coffee shortly after you pass Kualoa Ranch / Park. Lunch will be at Windward Mall; about 45-60 minutes. You will need money for lunch and if you purchase any macadamia nuts or coffee. After lunch you will head over the mountains to the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikiki for a pit stop. The last stop will be back up at the Pali Lookout where you will be able to take panoramic photos of the wind-ward coast lines of Kaneohe and Kailua as well as get windblown by the strong winds. You will then return to Ft. Shafter Flats at approximately 1530 hours.

The bus may be a little cool depending on the bus driver so you may want to consider bringing a

sweater or a light jacket along.

If you would like to bring a small cooler with drinks or snacks for the day, that’s fine.
