This year, we ask you to join us for our 2019 Stewardship Campaign: I'm In. We have concluded our campaign. During October we examined what Shadow Rock means to us and the many ways we show that support. The practical aspect of the campaign is the purple pledge card. These cards are our best predictor of giving income in the next fiscal year, and we cannot create a budget without them. Please consider them together as a family and return them to the financial office as soon as you are able.

We have one last “IN” word to encourage our final responses of support and thanks: INVEST! We think of this word in financial terms; but it has other dimensions We are invested in our marriages, our children, and our careers. There is a psychological principle that the more you are emotionally invested in something or someone, the harder it is to quit and cut your loses. I hope this is not your orientation to Shadow Rock and our ministries, but we hope you are “All In” with joy as you consider the work of the Spirit in your life, our congregation, and our world.

Announcements and Greeting Shared by Rev. Ken Heintzelman

Entry Into Worship Led by Linda Johnston Please stand if comfortably able.

One: Like a pebble in a pond Many: God tosses Shadow Rock into the sea of history. One: Like a nugget in a puddle Many: God tosses Shadow Rock into the ocean of need. One: Like a rock jutting out of the middle of a lake Many: God tosses Shadow Rock into chaotic waters to add

ripples of a new order of peace, justice, and love. One: Like ripples on a pond, so we are a part of the ever

expanding circle of care and justice for the sake of the world. Let us celebrate life!

All: Let us celebrate God! Singing Our Faith God is Still Speaking

by Marty Haugen God is still speaking, blessed invitation, God is still speaking listen and draw near, God is still speaking, see a new creation, God is still speaking, stand and do not fear.

1. All creation groans and yearns God is still speaking Seek the way that life returns listen and draw near Through our broken, wounded earth God is still speaking God can bring new seeds to birth stand, and do not fear.

God is still speaking, blessed invitation, God is still speaking listen and draw near, God is still speaking, see a new creation, God is still speaking, stand and do not fear.

2. To the ones enslaved, oppressed

God is still speaking God is here in human dress Listen and draw near When the poor and lost are found God is still speaking When the mighty are cast down Stand, and do not fear.

Celebrations and Our Celebration Song

This is our time to share the celebrations of our lives: birthdays, anniversaries, words of kindness and works of peace and justice.

Celebrate your heart and your spirit, Celebrate your life while you live it.

Even when it’s hard to do, Celebrate the best of you.

Celebrate your dreams and your visions, Celebrate the love you’ve been given. Cherish all that you’ve been through,

Celebrate the best of you.

Statement of Trust and Faith Led by Liz Curry

We covenant one with another to be that sensitive and responsive part of human society which perceives and responds to God’s newest thrust in the midst of history. The uniqueness and greatness of every life is radically affirmed. Our task together demands a comprehensive view of life, always pointed intentionally to the future. Our life together will involve us individually and corporately in study and worship, always maintaining a proper balance between proclamation of the Word about life with the deeds which make life good. Those activities which eliminate age barriers, cut across religious dogma, reduce cultural parochialisms and engage secular people with life’s ultimate possibilities will be worthy of our best efforts.

Our One Table Celebration Bread, Wine and Invitation to Share Led by Linda Johnston

One: It is our custom to have an open table where all people are

invited to share bread and wine. We believe this is a continuation of the radical table hospitality of Jesus. All: His invitation proclaimed the vision of love, justice, and

peace of God for all people. One: The larger story of table fellowship includes the reversal of social roles so as to make known the height, depth, and inclusiveness of God’s love. All: We show our gratitude for all of life by inviting all people to the Table of Life! One: And now let the weak say, “I am strong!” All: I AM STRONG! One: Let the poor say, “I am rich!” All: I AM RICH! One: The bread and wine are not for us alone, but are symbols of a universal message of hope that challenges the worldviews of

violence that feed oppression and separation. All: May our sisters and brothers in all lands join us in lifting

the bread of life and the cup of compassion. One: Today we ritualize and celebrate the inclusive table practices of Jesus. All: May this holy meal empower each of us to become partners in the Great Work of healing all people, all Nations, and all the planet.

Please come forward because all are welcome. We offer gluten-free bread at the station closest to

the pulpit. Our offering for the communion baskets is dedicated to One Great Hour of Sharing.)

Sending Forth Song We Are the Family by Ray Repp Chorus We are the family and we are the home, We are the mountain where love can be known. We are the voices and we are the hands For bringing peace to our land. (Repeat) 1. And in our family all are welcome, Doesn’t matter who you are, In our home there’s always room So plan to stay. On our mountain where we labor There’s much work that’s left to do, And your talents would be helpful if you stay. Chorus 2. And in our family ev’ry nation, Ev’ry planet, ev’ry race, Ev’ryone is always welcome to our home. And with our voices let us tell you That we mean just what we say, And with our hands united, let us pray. Chorus

Coming in November:

Empathy Workshops

/ˈempəTHē/ noun

The ability to understand and share the

feelings of another

• Sometimes we struggle to become aware of what

we’re thinking and feeling.

• Sometimes it’s the most difficult to talk about “real

stuff” with the people we want to feel the closest to.

• Sometimes a solution feels easier to reach once we’ve

been heard and affirmed.

Join us at 9 o’clock on November 11, 18, and 25 for an

experience of empathy. We’ll be paring up,

learning skills, and looking for people willing to share a

recent situation around which they need someone to ex-

press understanding.

Our empathy coach and guest facilitator will be Chris-

tine Dove, LCSW, a local leader in

compassionate communication.
