Acceptable Use Policy Highlights

Acceptable Use

Research and curriculum-driven purposes

Copyrighted materials, threatening or obscene materials, etc.

Use of the device for purposes other than what is intended “is grounds for suspending or revoking computer network privileges and may result in discipline.” (Policy 6:235 Administrative Procedures)

Use will not be permitted for the following:

Disruption of order and discipline

Threatens integrity or operation of district’s network

Violates the rights of others

Is socially inappropriate

For solicitation of funds

Is illegal in any way

Constitutes gross disobedience

Privileges

Network Etiquette Students may not obtain

other user information, files, data, and passwords.

All communication and information is private property.

Internet use may be monitored.

The network may not be used maliciously:

Hate mail, harassment, discriminatory remarks, etc.

The network may not be used to access inappropriate material.

“The use of electronic devices and the Internet is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in a cancellation of those privileges.”

Security and Vandalism

• Students will not: • Install software on District

computers.

• Share accounts or passwords with anyone.

• Disrupt the use of the network.

• Destroy, modify, or abuse District hardware or software.

• Students must keep passwords private and protected.

Receiving Device(Check-Out) Parents/guardians are required to:

Attend the One-to-One Handbook presentation. Read the 1:1 Handbook Sign the Parent/Student User Agreement Complete all relevant paperwork. Enroll in/submit payment for the device Accident

Protection Plan prior to taking the device home.

Returning Device(Check-In) Terminated enrollment:

Device, case, charger, and charging cable must be returned on the date of termination or withdrawal.

Or parents may keep the device (payment for the remaining value of the device must be made).

Failure to turn in the device could result in criminal prosecution, a theft report being filed with the Lake Villa Police Department, and requirement of payment for replacement costs of the device and accessories.

Using the Device

Students should have NO expectation of privacy of materials found on the device.

Front and rear-facing camera, provides video and audio recording capabilities.

Device is intended for use at school each day. Students are responsible for bringing their device to all classes unless instructed by the teacher to not do so.

Not having the device is not a valid excuse for not completing work.

Devices needing repair:

Technology helpdesk located in the library/media.

If available, a loaner device will be issued to the student.

Students should NOT try to repair the device.

Using the Device (cont.) Electronic device use is not permitted outside of the

classroom, except with teacher supervision. Devices must be in their cases when traveling to

and from classes. Printing will be limited. The device is designed as a tool for school work and

activities. Any attempt to go around the district web filter will

result in disciplinary action with possible revocation of the device for a period of time. Attempts include: using proxies, phone tethering, or Wi-Fi Hot

Spots.

Using the Device (cont.)

Instructional Use

Sound must be muted unless instructed otherwise.

Students must give credit to all sources used including all forms of media on the Internet.

Managing Files and Saving Work

The District cannot guarantee that the network will be up and running 100% of the time.

If the network is down, the district is not responsible for lost or missing data.

Usage Guidelines Devices should be locked in student’s locker when

not in direct possession. All applications, games, and music on device must

be legitimately purchased and licensed. Students are responsible for backing up their

personal data. Resetting a device. Student files and communications may be reviewed

by network administrators. Students are responsible for appropriateness of all

files, data, and internet history.

Personalization of the Device

• Students may personalize:

• Lock screen

• Home screen

• Personalization must be appropriate.

• Students are required to passcode protect the device.

• Students may not install apps or other software on the device.

• Music may not be loaded.

Software on the Devices School Provided Apps/Software:

District 41 installed apps/software must remain on the device.

District may add software/apps for use in a particular class.

Altering and Hacking: If a district’s device has been hacked, altered, adjusted, or given

access to restricted features or Internet privileges, appropriate disciplinary action of the student will take place.

Action may include an expense deemed appropriate by district personnel to cover time/cost to restore the device to usable condition.

Using the Device at Home

• Comcast provides special pricing for families meeting low-income guidelines.

• Students are expected to use the device at home in accordance with all District policies.

Device Care and Maintenance GuideGeneral Information General care of the issued device and

charger is student’s responsibility.

Unique ID number on each device.

Students may NOT lend their device to another person.

Students should not keep devices on the floor.

Students should not use the device in public, unless required to for an assignment

Students should NOT bring devices to after-school activities, unless they can be locked up and stored safely and securely.

Students should NEVER leave devices unattended!

Battery and Charging Be careful plugging in and

unplugging chargers and other accessories.

Students should charge all devices at home.

Battery life is 6 – 8 hours.

Extending battery life.

Devices should never be left in a hot car or similar environment.

Device Care and Maintenance Guide

Cases Each device comes with a case

that is padded for the device’s protection.

Device cases provided must be returned with only normal wear and no alterations to avoid paying a replacement fee.

New device cases are available for purchase if lost or not returned.

Students may not draw, write, place stickers or labels on the device.

Screen The device can be cleaned with a

soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in the openings.

Do NOT use window cleaners, household cleaners, etc. to clean the device.

Avoid using any sharp objects on the device.

The device screen is glass and can crack. Students should avoid placing heavy objects on the device or dropping it.

Do not “bump” the device against lockers, walls, etc. as it will break the screen.

Device Care and Maintenance Guide (cont.)Storage and Carrying Devices should never be left

unattended. Unattended devices will be collected and stored in the school’s main office.

Devices should never be exposed to long-term temperature extremes or direct sunlight.

No weight should be placed on the device.

Students should never throw or slide a device in or out of a case.

Keep the device away from food and drinks.

Devices should NOT be used on the playground, in the locker room, or in any bathroom.

Device Identification

Devices are labeled with an asset tag on both the case and actual device.

Tags contain the device serial number.

Fees & Insurance

FeesTechnology Device Fee $50.00

Insurance/Replacement Fee $ 5.00

Total Technology Fee $55.00

 

If the technology fee is not paid the device cannot be taken home. Additionally, any damage or loss to the device is the full responsibility of the student or parent.

Parents needing to apply for a fee waiver need to fill out the waiver form.

Upon graduation from eighth grade and full payment from third grade through eighth grade the student is eligible to take the device with them.

Insurance Lake Villa School District is partnering with

One2One Risk Solutions to provide risk management replacement/insurance administrative services for our 1:1 initiative.

The district will issue parents/guardians a pre-paid card that will serve as payment when they register for their child’s device online. The pre-paid card can be picked up at the district office or school office once parents/guardians provide proof of payment for the $55.00 district technology fee.

Parents/guardians can www.one2onerisk.com to register their child’s device in the program.

Per Occurrence Deductible- $50.00
