Origin and terminology

• The term "stress" was first used by Hans Selye in the 1930s to identify physiological responses in laboratory animals.

• He later broadened and popularized the concept to include the perceptions and responses of humans trying to adapt to the challenges of everyday life.

• In Selye's terminology, "stress" refers to the reaction of the organism, and "stressor" to the perceived threat.

• Each influence on the human

organism is unique in itself and causes

different reactions

Definition • Stress is a biological term which refers to the

consequences of the failure of a human or animal body to respond appropriately to emotional or physical threats to the organism, whether actual or imagined. It is "the autonomic response to environmental stimulus”.(Wikipedia)

• It includes a state of alarm and adrenaline production, short-term resistance as a coping mechanism, and exhaustion. It refers to the inability of a human or animal body to respond.

• Common stress symptoms include irritability, muscular tension, inability to concentrate and a variety of physical reactions, such as headaches and elevated heart rate.

99

• Selye created a theory of non- specific reaction, which was formulated as the concept of the stress

• STRESS is a condition, appearing under the influence of any strong factors and accompanied by the "general mobilization” of defensive systems of the organism

Page 10: 11 SCENAR therapy and Stress SCENAR Academy by Prof. A. Revenko Moscow, Russia, 2010

• The following ideas were conceived:• General adaptation syndrome; • Hormone adaptation (the hormones of

the front lobe of the pituitary gland and adrenal glands);

• Diseases of adaptation; • Energy adaptation (as a measure of

endurance of the organism)

Page 11: 11 SCENAR therapy and Stress SCENAR Academy by Prof. A. Revenko Moscow, Russia, 2010

1111

• When our body meets very strong irritants the main task is to receive energy in a very short time to preserve life.

• This is unprofitable but at the same time the fast energy impulse mobilizes the production of adrenaline and hydrocortisone.

• This process causes disintegration of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates. Hydrocortisone oppresses thymus, immunity, at the same time blood pressure and blood coagulation increase. Other functions unnecessary for the struggle for existence are suppressed.

• All reactions respond with huge energy expense.

• So stress is a typical example of how this reaction causes damage

• Russian scientists: Garkavy L., Kvakina E. and Ukolova M. discovered the adaptation reactions to the influence of small and medium factors:

• training, • activation (increased and quiet),• a-reaction • and over-reaction.

Models of stress management• In order to develop an effective stress management

programme, it is first necessary to identify the factors that are central to a person controlling his/her stress, and to identify the intervention methods which effectively target these factors.

• Lazarus and Folkman's interpretation of stress focuses on the transaction between people and their external environment (known as the Transactional Model).

• Health realization/innate health model - This model proposes that helping stressed individuals understand the nature of thought,-especially providing them with the ability to recognize when they are in the grip of insecure thinking, disengage from it, and access natural positive feelings - will reduce their stress.

• Techniques of stress management -There are several ways of coping with stress.

Models of stress management• Autogenic training • Cognitive therapy • Conflict resolution • Exercise • Getting a hobby • Meditation • Deep breathing • Nootropics • Relaxation techniques • Artistic Expression • Fractional relaxation • Progressive relaxation • Spas • Stress balls • Natural medicine • Clinically validated alternative treatments • Time management

• Listening to certain types of relaxing music, particularly: – New Age music – Classical music – Psychedelic music

local and reciprocal points to restore wholeness

• Patient rests on a couch• D1, basic, E-comf (choose E on the face),

combi electrode• First - put passive electrode on the 1st

abdomen point• Next – put active electrode on the 1st face

point• Wait for a dose• First – take off active electrode and then –

passive electrode• Repeat with all next point pairs

NUMBER 6

• Hermaphrodite's symbol in ancient Greece.• Six days of creation (Christianity, Judaism, in the

sumeric religion, Pythagoras’ figure of the creation of the world ).

• Six spatial positions (top - bottom, at the front - at the back, on the right - on the left). In India a holy number.

• The sixth sense – – and common sense !• Expression of the universe – four directions + top

and bottom, there are six directions (Old-Chinese philosophy).

• Day and night divide in six parts.• Association with the snake and the scorpion, in

Africa a figure of death.

• AIM – to normalize energy and emotional state

• TYPES - big and small stars – BIG - front and back– SMALL - front and back

- upper and lower

• ALGORITHM – vertical position of electrode

• Measure IR\D*on each position. Follow order of movement of electrode

• When you have finished all 5 positions, compare all D*s and make “0”

• Put the electrode again on the 1st position (IR\D*) and if D* highest of all – make one more “0”

• Change the 1st position and repeat the same algorithm (see slide)
