God Blesses Us through Others

1.11 God Blesses Us through OthersWhen Naomi’s husband and two sons died, she was very sad. She decided to go back to her hometown of Bethlehem. She told her two daughters-in-law they were free to return to their parents’ homes. One daughter left, but the other, Ruth, chose to follow her mother-in-law wherever she went. When they arrived in Bethlehem, Ruth went to gather grain from the fields to help provide for her mother-in-law. A man named Boaz noticed Ruth and saw how hard she worked. He blessed her and allowed her to take some of the very best grain from his field. Eventually, Boaz blessed Ruth and Naomi even more by marrying Ruth and taking care of them both.
Scripture has been provided for you to model to the children in your small group how to look for truth in God’s Word. Some verses may be engaging for your preschoolers, while others may directly aid you in preparing to lead this time of discussion. Consider reading from the NIrV or NLT versions of the Bible.
Questions:1. Read Ruth 1:16. How did God use Ruth to bless Naomi? (She followed Naomi and promised to never
leave her.)2. Read Ruth 2:8; 4:13. How did God use Boaz to bless Ruth? (He let her gather from his fields, which
kept her safe, and later he married her and they had a son.)3. Read Ruth 2:11–12. Why did Boaz bless Ruth? (He knew Ruth had left her homeland to take care of
Naomi and saw how hard she worked to provide for her mother-in-law.)4. Read Ruth 4:17; Matthew 1:5–17. How did God use Ruth and Boaz to bless the world? (They were
ancestors of Jesus, the One who would bless the whole world as our Savior.)5. What part do you think you can play in The Big God Story?
