*LITANY Tom Richards One: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them to God. One: Let us give thanks to the Holy One. All: It is right to give God our thanks and praise. One: God created heaven and earth and saw that they were good. All: God chose a people to be God’s delight. One: But we have wounded creation in our vanity. All: We have marred it by our greed. One: Yet God gives us a vision, All: and a longing for a day beyond all terror: One: A day when weeping gives way to delight, All: when all people enjoy the fruits of their labor and all creation dwells in peace. One: Take heart, people of God, for that day will surely come. Let us pray…

ATTENDING TO GOD’S WORD

ANTIPHONAL READING FROM THE SCRIPTURES Clergy, Cantor, and Congregation

Antiphon: Congregation may join the cantor in singing the antiphon.

Psalm 98:1-9 JILL A. TRUAX

Cantor and Congregation

One: 1 O sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things. His right hand and his holy arm have gotten him victory. 2 The LORD has made known his victory; he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations. 3 He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God.

Cantor and Congregation

One: 4 Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises. 5 Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody. 6 With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the LORD.

Cantor and Congregation

One: 7 Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who live in it. 8 Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing together for joy 9 at the presence of the LORD, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.

Cantor and Congregation

RESPONSE One: May God who commanded light to shine out of darkness enlighten our way today. All: Amen.

READING FROM THE HEBREW SCRIPTURES Rev. Holly H. Adams

One: God’s message finds utterance in our midst. All: We wait and listen for God’s word to us today.

Isaiah 65:17-25 17 For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind. 18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating; for I am about to create Jerusalem as a joy, and its people as a delight. 19 I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and delight in my people; no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in it, or the cry of distress. 20 No more shall there be in it an infant that lives but a few days, or an old person who does not live out a lifetime; for one who dies at a hundred years will be considered a youth, and one who falls short of a hundred will be considered accursed.

21 They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 22 They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands. 23 They shall not labor in vain, or bear children for calamity; for they shall be offspring blessed by the LORD - and their descendants as well. 24 Before they call I will answer, while they are yet speaking I will hear. 25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox; but the serpent - its food shall be dust! They shall not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain, says the LORD.

RESPONSE

One: The scriptures give us a vision of God’s kingdom. All: We join with God to make it a reality.

*HYMN OF DEVOTION “When Peace, Like a River” VILLE DU HAVRE

CALL TO THE GOSPEL Rev. Cynthia K Schneider

One: Silence in us, O God, any voice but your own. All: May your Word be proclaimed and received here today.

Luke 21:5-19 5 When some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God, he said, 6 "As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down." 7 They asked him, "Teacher, when will this be, and what will be the sign that this is about to take place?" 8 And he said, "Beware that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name and say, 'I am he!' and, 'The time is near!' Do not go after them. 9 "When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for these things must take place first, but the end will not follow immediately."

10 Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; 11 there will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and plagues; and there will be dreadful portents and great signs from heaven. 12 "But before all this occurs, they will arrest you and persecute you; they will hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my name. 13 This will give you an opportunity to testify. 14 So make up your minds not to prepare your defense in advance; 15 for I will give you words and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict. 16 You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. 17 You will be hated by all because of my name. 18 But not a hair of your head will perish. 19 By your endurance you will gain your souls.

RESPONSE

One: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church. All: Thanks be to God!

ANTHEM “I Dream a World” Chancel Choir Andre Thomas

Of such I dream. I dream a world where all,

No other one will scorn, Where love will bless the earth And peace its paths adorn.

I dream a world where all will know sweet freedom’s way, Where greed no longer saps the soul Nor avarice blights our day. A world I dream where black or white, Whatever race you be,

Will share the bounties of the earth and everyone is free, Of such I dream.

Where wretchedness will hang its head And joy, like a pearl, attends the needs of everyone.

Of such I dream, I dream a world.

MISSION MINISTRY

MISSIONS WATCH: Children’s Home Society. November is national adoption month. Since 1902, Children’s Home Society of Florida has been working to find “forever homes” for children who have nowhere else to go, to enact legislation to protect children from exploitation, and to respond to changing social and cultural conditions that impact families. Here in Vero Beach, CHS works to find adoptive families, provides residential care, and offers educational and counselling services to children and families. Our mission dollars help children grow and thrive.

THE FOOD PANTRY OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY: is gathering food and/or money TODAY to help feed the people of Indian River County. Envelopes are available if you would prefer to make a monetary donation. Call Scott Turner (772.633.7164) for more information about the food drive or the food pantry.

GLOBAL PRAYER PARTNER: Morocco. Emmanuela Loccident serves with the Evangelical Church of Morocco. Our sisters and brothers of Morocco are living in critical times. As you may know, Morocco is at the crossroads of Africa and Europe, the best location for dreamers wanting to cross over to what they strongly believe is a better life in Europe. Their hope in the future is so vibrant in spite of all the atrocities, oppression, and inhumane acts they have to endure. The Protestant Church in Morocco welcomes all who are willing to come, and even goes after those who don’t feel deserving of love. They have created programs for migrating people, offering food baskets, clothes, medication, lodging, transportation, grants for those who want to go back to their home country, professional training, and more. Thanks to your prayers, your thoughts, and gifts, we are able to assist those who are vulnerable and in need of gaining back their dignity. Prayer: Yahweh Shalom, as we are lifting up in prayer our sisters and brothers in Morocco, we thank you for your overwhelming peace in the midst of troubled times, a peace that is available to us all. Remind us that by standing firm in peace, we will win life. We pray for the Protestant Church in Morocco as they participate in the movement of wholeness in a fragmented world. God we pray for safety, health, and strength for all the dreamers who are looking for a better future, not only for themselves but also for those attached to them. Please guide them in their journey and give them the courage and strength to face what is ahead. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen

CHRISTMAS WISH TREE: This Christmas mission helps families who otherwise couldn’t provide Christmas gifts for their children. Working through agencies such as Dasie Bridgewater Hope, Samaritan Center, Children's Home Society, and many more, the Community Church Mission Board hopes to reach and serve 350 families throughout Indian River County. Beginning next Sunday, November 24th we encourage you to take a tag from the tree, purchase the suggested item on the back and return the unwrapped gift(s) to the church office by Sunday, December 8th, so that your gifts can be delivered back through the agencies to be distributed to the children by Christmas. Thank you for helping to make a child's Christmas brighter.
