LUBRICATION

LUBRICATION INFORMATION

Don't let excessive grease collect on or around parts.

The followi.,g page shows the location of all lubrica­tion points. The frequency of lubrication is given in hours based on normal operating conditions. Severe or unusual conditoins may require more frequent attention.

Use an SAE mUlti-purpose type grease for all loca­tions shown here. Be sure to clean the fitting thoroughly before using grease gun.

The number on the grease gun symbol indicates lubrication frequency in hours.

Example: ~ Grease every 10 hours.

ROLLER CHAIN

Chains should be lubricated frequently to maintain their high efficiency and give long, trouble-free ser-

vice. Factors such as operating conditions (dirt and temperature), emount of power transmitted, speed of chain, and lubrication, influence the life of a chain. To effectively lubricate the chain joints, oil must be delivered to the spaces between side bars. It is also essential that an adequate oil film be retained be­tween the rollers and bushings to maintain a free and flexible chain. When a chain becomes stiff, it should be soaked and washed in a solvent to loosen and remove dirt and corrosion from the joints, then soaked overnight in oil until the lubricant penetrates between the rollers and bushings.

SEALED BEARINGS

Sealed bearings are used throughout the machine to provide trouble free operation with a minimum of maintenance and lubrication. Sealed bearings are lubricated for life, and due to the seals, relubrica­tion is not practical. For bearing replacement, see MAINTENANCE section, "Bearing Replacement (Eccentric Self-Locking Collar)".

WHEELS - Remove, clean and repack bearings each season or every 500 hours_

It is recommended that roller chains be lubricated daily with automatic transmission oil while the chains are still warm from operation_ This will draw the oil in around the rollers. CAUTION: DO NOT over lubricate chains since excess lubricant could get on belts which should be kept free of oiL
