NTS A MESSAGE FROM
OUR LEADERSHIP
To say that this year has been a roller coaster of highs and lows is an understatement. In April, when I was hired as the new CEO we embarked on a campaign to Reinvest in our Community, and Reinvest in the Y! Staff worked very hard on our reinvestment projects which included a total refresh of gym equipment, work on the swimming pool (including a new filter), new hot water tanks and planning development to look at a refresh project for the entire YMCA! We refocused on our charitable messages and talked about the impact that we had and with all of this work completed we were able to reach more people and as a result had a positive financial position. One thing we hadn’t planned for is a global pandemic which hit the Y and many other charities like us very hard in March. In the months since we have had to pivot in order to provide critical services such as emergency childcare, youth employment and wellness activities in way that we have never had to before. The pride that I feel for our Team is not easily explained. They have all stepped up in a brand new way. For almost 120 years we have served the community of Sault Ste. Marie, through world wars, depressions and yes even pandemics! This time is no different. Our community needs the Y now more than ever and we will be here, making our community strong and helping recovery.
Thank you to our board, staff, volunteers, members and donors for your critical support over the last year. Without you there would be no Y.
