    11th Annual

    Father and Son Canoe Trip

    July 30st- Aug 1st, 2010

    Tippecanoe River

    Winamac, Indiana

Overview: We will drive to Beason Campground on Friday, July 30th. Departurewill be from Our Lady of Good Hope parking lot after the 9:00 daily Mass. There isno second rendezvous time. If you cannot make it for the morning departure, please

let me know. Directions are included in this notice. There is plenty of room in thetrailer for personal gear.

The drive to Beason Campgroundis about 2:00 hours (~100mi) and a map link isincluded on this email.

We will camp Friday night at Beason Campground. Saturday morning we will betransported by bus to begin our canoeing. The group will be transported up river toMonterey where we begin canoeing. The campsite is down river about 25 (river)miles. We will have Sat. morning Mass at the campsite along the river, celebrated by

Fr. Glen Kohrman. Sunday morning Mass will be at the campsite and then its backon the river for two hours to Winamac. Riverside canoe Rentals will then transport usback to Beason Campground where we depart for home.

River: The Tippecanoe River runs along the Eastern edge of the Tippecanoe StatePark. The typical depth runs 2-3 feet. The Tippecanoe River is considered the river oflakes. It is fed and nourished by eighty-eight natural lakes. It is a clean river with somesilt from the farms and lakes feeding it. The bottom is mostly sand. The current runs anaverage of 4 mph, so the times listed below are for floating and not hard canoeing. There are a number of restrictions due to downed trees and a novice canoer can expect

to get wet. Most of the gear will be at the campsite, so anything such as cameras needto be in a watertight container. Total river miles is about 30 over two days. For thefisherman, there is good smallmouth bass, northern pike, catfish, and pan fish fishingavailable. I am told that there is plenty of water even with the current draught.

Campsite: The campsite is a 25 acre property of Culver Military Academy. Waterand restrooms are available at the campsite. There is plenty of space for tents andpersonal vehicles. There is a large grass recreation area with volleyball net. There iseven room for playing baseball and hitting a 5-Iron. Bring your recreation gear!
