This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated December 15, 2010, regarding AikenTechnical College's proposal for the Quality Control Technical Education (QCTEP) program. Inyour letter, you presented information about the goals for a nuclear workforce developmentprogram at Aiken Technical College and requested full and fair consideration of the grantapplication.
Within the NRC, the appropriate program and contract offices are carefully reviewing the grantapplications for this year. Each application will be evaluated for its ability to support courses,studies, training, curricula, and disciplines relevant to the nuclear industry via a sustainableeducational infrastructure. We appreciate your interest and the past participation of AikenTechnical College in programs to train and develop the next generation nuclear workforce. It isanticipated that the NRC will award funds by March 2011; we will inform your office if an awardis made within your state.

I understand that you will soon be making decisions on grant awards, Aiken Technical College(Aiken, South Carolina) has submitted a proposal to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission'sQuality Control Technical Education (QCTEP) program, I believe this to be a worthy projectand I would ask that you give it full consideration under all appropriate guidelines andregulations,
Aiken Technical College hopes to address current nuclear workforce needs by designing anuclear quality control certificate program for undergraduate students that can be deliveredonline or in a traditional classroom setting. Funding from the QCTEP program will providetraining for critical workers in the Savannah River area of South Carolina and Georgia, an areawhose economy is centered on two power plants currently licensed by the Nuclear RegulatoryCommission, Plant Vogtle and the V.c. Summer Station. Aiken Technical College hopes todesign and implement a nuclear quality control certificate within the college's existing AppliedSciencelIndustrial Technology degree program. The college plans to enroll 32 students in theon-campus program and 16 students in the online program. Aiken Tech has the capability toproduce and distribute high quality online training materials and hopes to eventually expand theircourse offerings to other locations in the southeast region,
