PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

I extend a warm Wisconsin welcome to the 120th Wisconsin State Trapshooting Championship. Your Board of Directors and many volunteers have been working endlessly to provide our best shoot ever. The interior of our learning center has been completed thanks to coordination by "Chops" Gurkowski. New furniture has been donated by the Westfield Gun Club. Participation in our tournament continues to grow. After four years as a Category 5 shoot, this year we have earned a Cat 6. This is a remarkable accomplishment that can be credited to organizers, sponsors and shooter participation alike. Thank you to all.

New this year, we will be open on Monday for classification, squadding and Marathon targets to provide shooters the opportunity to get their targets in. Also, we will be hosting a Pig Roast on Tuesday evening, prepared by Jim Giese, veteran of over 200 pig roasts. This will begin around 4:00 PM and is sponsored by YZ's Body Shop, John Coniff, Steve Wolf and the WTA.

Thursday is White Flyer Day. All three events are sponsored by White Flyer, along with $1000 cash to be won in a special shoot off following the last event of the day. Thank you to White Flyer for their generosity. The Paul Becker Friday night fish fry returns this year. Along with great fish, this fun-filled evening will include a live auction, silent auctions, door prizes and live band, TKO.

As we enjoy the week's activities, let's take time to make new friends and renew old friendships. Remember squadmates who are no longer with us but are such a great part of who we have become.

Patronize our sponsors and thank them for their generosity. And thank you to you all for your participation. You have helped make this shoot one of the best in the country.

Shoot well and have fun.

Fritz Thistle – WTA President

Classification - All shooters, whether pre-squadded or not, must start at classification. Present your plastic ATA card and ATA paper average card to a member of the Classification Committee at the classification table. Your paper average card must be presented and up to date or you will not be classified! They will enter your classification, yardage and any special category for which you declare into the computer system. If you do not have a plastic ATA card or ATA number, then the computer will assign a temporary Shooter Number. Otherwise your ATA Number is your Shooter Number. Do not misplace this number as it will be required for squadding and cashiering.

Squadding - If you have pre-squadded for this shoot at presquad.com beginning May 1 (at noon CST), you may proceed directly to the cashier’s counter. Otherwise, proceed to the squadding table and stand in the line for the event(s) that you wish to enter. Present your plastic ATA card or Shooter Number to the squadding personnel. They will enter your squadding information into the computer system. You will not receive any paper entry cards. Shooters must take an available position or squad that’s open in the next available flight of squads. There is a limit of one full squad per shooter per event. There will be no exceptions except for those shooters that are handicapped. Any shooter or group of shooters found trying to circumvent these procedures by requesting multiple squads and/or positions will have their entries refused and could be subject to further disqualification from an event or from the entire tournament. To ensure your shooting times and positions, the use of presquad.com is recommended. Please note: The trapline is arranged into fourteen (14) banks of trapfields with 14 starting points. Bank A is at the East end and Bank N is at the West end of the trapline. Fifty targets will be shot per trap for all singles, handicap and doubles events. Charts showing the starting locations for squad numbers will be made available andposted about the grounds.

Cashiering - Present your plastic ATA card or Shooter Number to personnel at the cash- ier’s counter. They will ask which purses and options that you wish to play. Please make this decision in advance, as no additions or withdrawals will be allowed for any event after you have cashiered. Checks will be accepted for the amount of shooting fees only. Make checks payable to the WTA. No two party checks or endorsements. A $50.00 fee will be charged on all bad checks. There are no refunds unless an event is cancelled. All pre-squad positions for all events each day will be held until 30 minutes prior to the first event of the day. After that time, pre-squadded positions not yet cashiered for that day will be cancelled and opened to all shooters.Sub-Junior/Junior Entry: Shooters under 18 years of age are offered targets at a reduced rate of $24.00 per 100 only if purses or options are not played. These Sub-Juniors/Juniors are still eligible for trophies and added money if their score so qualifies them.

Event Payoffs - You must present your plastic ATA card or Shooter Number to cashier personnel in order to receive any event payoffs. Announcements will be made or posted daily as to the availability of payoffs. All payoffs not made at the shoot will be mailed within 10 days. SQUAD HUSTLINGCheck in with the squad hustler at your starting trap and sign in on your squad sheet at the starting trap scorer’s bench. At each of the starting locations, the number of the squad that is actually shooting is posted on the scorer’s bench. We Do Not Call Squad Numbers On The PA System. No shooter will be allowed to make up more than one sub-event on make up practice traps 17 or 18. If you are unable to join your squad before they have started their second sub-event, you must be resquadded and pay a $20.00 resquadding fee. If you miss one sub-event, you must report to a WTA Director and make up the sub-event on a practice trap.

TARGET SETTINGTargets will be set each morning. Only authorized WTA personnel may reset targets. Any unauthorized person observed resetting targets may be disqualified from that event.

SHOOT OFFSShoot offs will begin immediately following the last event of each day and will be conducted according to ATA guidelines. All shooters should be ready to shoot at that time. Handicap shoot offs will be held on the day of the event. Singles and Doubles ties will be carried over until the last respective event of the tournament. Contestants will be called over the PA to report for check-in, which is located in the northwest corner of the entry building. Those shooters who have not reported by third call or are not promptly at their assigned field when called will be disqualified from the shoot offs. Shoot offs will be under the sole discretion of the Shoot off Manager. All shoot off determinations and decisions will be made by the manager or his appointed staff and will be final.

Note: No Shooter may win more than one trophy per event, except the concurrent awards of Husband/Wife, Parent/Child, and AIM Awards.

ATA RULE – SPECIAL CATEGORIES: All Ladies I and II, Sub-Juniors, Juniors, Junior Gold, Sub-Veterans, Veterans, and Senior Veterans must declare their special category at the time of classification in any registered tournament if they wish to compete as a category shooter. Without such declaration, the contestant will not be allowed to compete for the applicable category trophy. No contestant will be allowed to declare or change a special declaration after firing his/her first shot. There will be no exceptions to this rule. The following rules apply to shooters who have declared a special category. At all tournaments where All-American points will be awarded in any event, shooters may declare only one (1) category. Note: Chair shooters are exempt from this rule. Shooters who become eligible for new age-based categories during the target year may elect to continue to compete in the previous category for the remainder of that target year. (For example, a shooter reaching age 70 may elect to continue to shoot as a Veteran for the remainder of the current target year.) However, once a shooter has elected to move to the new category, that decision is irrevocable and he/she may not again declare eligibility for the previous category. Junior shooters reaching the age of 18 may continue to declare Junior category for the remainder of the current target year.

PRACTICE TRAPSPractice will be available each day on traps 17 and 18. Tickets must be purchased at the cashier’s counter and are not refundable if not used. The cost is $6.00 per 25 targets for singles or handicap and $12.00 per 50 targets for doubles. Make your entry at the practice traps. Practice times will be posted and announced each day.

The ATA Trapshooting Hall of Fame maintains a museum in Sparta, IL and provides a research library for the history of our sport. It also awards college scholarships and conducts programs for youth to promote the future of trapshooting. Half of the entry in this award is donated to the Hall of Fame. We encourage you to participate and support its various activities. Entry for this Lewis Purse is available in the Recob’s Target Shop Handicap Championship (Event 13) and Option 7.

ATA gun clubs are the grassroots for our Association. Most every angle within the ATA starts and ends with the success of our gun clubs. If they are not successful, the ATA is not successful. Therefore, each year the ATA awards grants to help enhance the clubs and grant them funds needed to enrich our sport. Half of the entry in this award is donated to the ATA to support this grant program. Entry for this Lewis Purse is available in the Kolar Arms Singles Championship (Event 12) as Option 7.
