• Wheat cultivation in Nepal is done by traditional
method. Broadcasting of seed is common planting
method of wheat.
• In present situation, there is great scope to increase
productivity of wheat for food security.

• SRI is successfully practiced in over 35
countries, and gave increased paddy yields of
66-87% (Styger and Ibrahim, 2009).

• Last year SWI was tried in Kailali and some district
of western Nepal.
• The SWI yield in Kailali was about 8 t/ha. Several
Indian states promoting SWI in India in large scale
(Personal communication R. Uprety, 2012).

• Hence, a study was conducted to determine the
performance of SWI practice in Nepal.

•Multi location study trials and scaling up ofSWI across various parts of the country forfarmers should be conducted. It may be ameasure to increase yield.
