“Level 3 Good Sports Accredited Club”
Welcome to 2017 and another year of tennis in
Paradise. We hope to see you all back on the
courts fully fit and rested after the holidays.
How time flies and already we are approaching the end of January, with new competitions be-
ginning, Your organisers have been working
hard to get everything in order for their com-
mencement and we appreciate their dedication
to our club. (See page 2 for all info).
How amazing is our new deck looking? The
result of prudent management of our club fi-
nances and applications for grants; again time
spent by your Committee in our interests.
These are long and complicated applications
but we have been quite successful in gaining
funding in the past and will continue to apply in
the future.
The new deck will allow us to accommodate
the 100 players from our Seniors tournament
at the Saturday night BBQ in a bit more com-
fort than in previous years and give us more
viewing area to courts 4-6.
The resurfacing of courts 8 and 9 was complet-
ed ahead of schedule and they are playing nicely
despite the amount of sand on them. The used
synthetic grass was offered to members and
residents free of charge. This saved the club a
significant amount of money, not having to pay
tip fees for dumping.
There was some grass still left over and Coach
Kevin is slowly clearing the southern area be-
hind courts 4-6 and laying the grass there. It has
made a great improvement to that area which
has always been a bit of an eyesore. Once again
thanks Kev.
HELPERS NEEDED
Our popular Annual Seniors’ Tournament is on
again from 17 – 19 February. Over 200 players
will be coming from all over Australia and a lot
of help is needed to make sure it all runs
smoothly. The main help is needed in the can-
teen to prepare lunches each day and the bar-
becue dinner on Saturday night. Jenny Ruther-
ford is putting together a roster for that so can
you please contact her on 0421 915 034 if you
can give an hour or 2 of your time in the can-
teen.
Other helpers are needed around the centre to
set up tables and chairs, prepare courts for play
including the eskies, erect tents, empty rubbish
bins, general tidying up, sell raffle tickets, etc.,
etc. If anyone has a current RSA certificate any
help at the bar would also be appreciated. Con-
tact Pauline on 04399 19393 if you can help
with these jobs.
A NEW YEAR BEGINS
It is with sorrow that we advise members of the
passing of our friend and fellow member Ron
Stuart.
At Ron’s Memorial Service we
learnt of a loving husband and
father, Ron was an exceptional
man within his working life
and mentor to many.
We extend our condolences to his wife Susan and
to all his family. RIP.

LOVELY LADIES WANTED
Eighteen ladies and friends from Ulladulla Tennis Club recently embarked on a P & O cruise to Melbourne to attend the Australian Open
Tennis. Knowing how these ladies love to have fun, it’s surprising that they all survived. Of course, there are some things that happened on
board and will forever remain on board. Interesting to wonder if this group will ever be accepted on another P & O Cruise. Just joking! They
all had a wonderful time, got to watch plenty of great tennis and came
back inspired. Names are now being taken for next year’s cruise!

WEEKLY SOCIAL MATCHES UP AND RUNNING AGAIN
This is something that happened in an Aged Care Center. The peo-
ple who live there have small apartments but they all eat at a central
Cafeteria.
One morning, one of the residents didn't show up for breakfast so
my friend went upstairs and knocked on his door to see if everything
was OK. She could hear him through the door. He said that he was
running late, and would be down shortly, so she went back to the
Dining area.
An hour later, he still hadn't arrived; so she went back up towards
his room and she found him on the stairs. He was coming down the
stairs but was having a hell of a time. He had a death grip on the
hand rail and seemed to have trouble getting his legs to work right.
She told him she was going to call an ambulance but he told her no,
he wasn't in any pain, and just wanted to have his breakfast. So she
helped him the rest of the way down the stairs and he had his break-
fast When he tried to return to his room he was completely unable
to get up even the first step so they called an ambulance for him.
A couple hours later she called the hospital to see how he was do-ing. The receptionist there said he was fine, he just had both of his
legs in one leg of his boxer shorts

POINT SCORES AT 10 DECEMBER 2016
Riley White and Natasha Phillips-Edgar have returned from Albury
after playing in the Margaret Court Cup, a grass court tournament
that attracts international and top Australian players due to its
placing during the Australian Summer of Tennis Series.
Natasha and Riley entered their respective 14 and under singles
and doubles events as well as playing above their age groups in the
under 16 singles. Playing in extremely hot conditions Riley man-
aged a win in his first 14 & under main draw match before being
beaten by the tournament 8th seed. Riley then paired with Patrick
Muller from Nowra in the doubles and despite a strong perfor-
mance lost in 2 close sets. Riley was then good enough to win a
round in both the 16 & under main and consolation draws before
his tournament came to an end.
Natasha’s first round 14 & under match was a tough 3-set match
that went a little over 2 hours in 35 degree heat with Natasha unfortunately going down but then recovering through the conso-
lation draw to make the semi-finals before being knocked out by
the eventual consolation draw winner in another long 3-set match.
In the doubles Natasha lost in the first round but again taking the
match to 3 sets. She was then successful in winning a round in the
16 & under singles before being knocked
out of the main draw and then fighting
hard in the 16s consolation event before
the heat took its toll and was narrowly
beaten 2-6 5-7 by an opponent 3 years
her senior.
For Riley and Natasha it was a great
experience to play on real grass courts
and to boost their Australian Rankings in
the process. They are now preparing for
the year ahead with the South East Re-
gion Junior Development Series starting
on February 5 at the Narang Road
courts in Bomaderry.

ent levels.

SOUTH EAST REGION JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT SERIES
Coach Kevin conducted 3 very successful trnnis clinics during the
school holidays. Parents were so impressed with the progress of the
children during these camps that a number have booked Kevin for fu-
ture coaching.
These camps are a great way for children to learn the fundamentals of
the game that will carry them into a sport that they can play all their
lives.
Well done Kevin, we appreciate all you do for our club and the ad-
vancement of tennis generally.
