CLASSIFICATION LEVELS
DefinitionsFour-Level Classification
Secret(Highly Restricted)
The most sensitive information, intended strictly for internal
use, is assigned this classification. The unauthorizeddisclosure of information of this type could seriously andunfavourably impact the organization, its shareholders,partners or clients.
Confidential This classification is assigned to information less sensitive,yet destined for internal use only. The unauthorizeddisclosure of this type of information could unfavourablyaffect the organization, its shareholders, partners or clients.
Private This classification is reserved for information used within theorganization, and whose unauthorized disclosure couldseriously and unfavourably affect the organization and itsemployees.
Unclassified This classification covers information not clearly fitting intoany other classification. Although unauthorized disclosure ofthis type of information is against policy, it should notseriously or unfavourably affect the organization, itsshareholders, partners or clients.
Three-Level Classification
Confidential Less sensitive information, nonetheless intended for internaluse, is so classified. Its unauthorized disclosure could haverepercussions unfavourable to the organization, itsshareholders, partners or clients
nternal Use !nly Information in this category should only be disclosed to thirdparties having signed a confidentiality agreement. Its
disclosure should not cause serious harm to theorganization. The information is available to all employeesvia the organizations Intranet. This classification is applied toall unclassified information by default, and includestelephone directories, training documents, templates andschedules.
Pu"lic Information the Sales or ublic !elations "epartments havee#plicitly approved for public distribution, such as salesbrochures and press releases.
