President’s Message
Dear Friends.
Greetings of the season
Welcome you all to the 66th Annual conference of the Neurological Society of India from 30th November to 3rd December in Nagpur. Nagpur a city with roots to medieval history and modernity lies in the center point of India and confluence of many cultures. Famous for oranges and wild life safaris it has important religious and social centers.
The local organizing team lead by Dr Shaym Babhulkar and Lokendra Singh have taken all the pains to make your stay comfortable and eventful.
Prof Suresh Nair, Chairman of scientific Committee has knit a very comprehensive and interactive scientific session to stimulate your academic tastes. There has been overwhelming response in academic participation and I thank all the participants and contributors. Prof. Natarajan Muthukumar and Prof Vinay Goyal have organized a very interesting and interactive CME to set the ball rolling on 30th Nov. Do participate in all the events.
The theme of the Conference “Innovation and Indigenization” is in tune with GOI's thrust on “Make in India” campaign. We plan to highlight our own innovators in neurosciences and encourage our young generations to get stimulated and take the lead.
I welcome the delegates from Society of Neurosurgeons of South Africa led by dynamic President Allen Taylor as our friendship society. I thank SNSA for their hospitality during NSI delegations visit to Durban in August. We had a very fruitful exchange of scientific and cultural events. We hope you have a comfortable stay and participation in Nagpur.
We continue and cherish our association with Congress of Neurological Surgeons in exchange of academic and educational activities. After completing 3 fruitful years, we have inked another MOU with CNS to carry forward the association for another 3 years. I would like to thank Prof. Alan Scarrow President of CNS and EC for hosting us in Boston during the Annual Conference of CNS. We had a large participation of almost 60 delegates from NSI in Boston. I would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. RC Mishra our immediate past President for all his efforts in coordinating the scientific program and participation in CNS. We look forwards to Prof Ashwini Saran the next President of CNS to carry forward our association.
Special thanks to Dr. VP Singh Hon. Secretary of NSI for shouldering the huge responsibility and smooth running of the society. I would like to thank all the EC members for their constant support and critical inputs in the day to day working of the society and their active role in carrying the society forwards.
I extend my sincere gratitude to all members of the society and elders for giving me this opportunity to serve the society. I thank you all for your blessings and support in this eventful journey.
Warm regards
Prof. Deepu BanerjiPresident, Neurological Society of India

Secretary’s Message
Friends,
This is my last newsletter to you as Secretary of Neurological Society of India. When we took over in
December 2014 at Coimbatore we had a daunting task ahead of us. The members desired to make
the Society more in tune with the times and more responsive to the needs of the members
especially the younger members. There was a demand to make the Society more inclusive and
transparent. Measures to this effect had been successfully initiated by the previous Executive
Committee and our mandate was to carry this endeavor forward. We set to work with these
objectives and it is for you to judge how much ground has been covered.
The Women in Neurosciences Forum and the Legal Cell Forum were initiated and the Young
Neuroscientist Forum and the Private Practitioners Forum started earlier became a regular feature – all of them are
extremely popular. A new Super-specialty CME was started targeting young neurosurgeons post training and two such
successful CMEs on Pediatric Neurosurgery and Adult Neuro-oncology have been conducted. The Neurosurgery
Education Board performance has been exemplary and they conduct the highly popular Foundation and Instructional
Courses for first year and final year residents twice a year. A new venture of publishing books relevant to India bore fruit
and three such books on Practical Neurosurgery, Pediatric Epilepsy & Neuropathology for clinicians have come out and
are distributed free of cost to all members. Neurology India has been rejuvenated by our dynamic Editor and several
innovative features introduced resulting in an all time high impact factor of 1.758. The NSI website has been revamped
and made mobile friendly. A new NSI app is now developed in keeping with the times. We have had friendship meetings
with several countries like USA, UK, South Africa & Russia. Most importantly Indian Neurosurgery has been showcased
to the world.
Dr Lokendra Singh and his team are applying their hearts and minds to have a wonderful conference in Nagpur. In
addition to the scientific and culinary feast that awaits us – they have an evening in which members can showcase their
cultural and social talents. We are all looking forward to this new initiative to make our meeting even more enjoyable.
The Society of Neurosurgeons of South Africa are joining us in Nagpur in a friendship meeting this year. We do hope that
you come with your families to enjoy this one of a kind conference.
It is time for a change of office bearers. Elections are already open and will remain open till the midnight of 28th
November. I urge all of you to exercise your vote and bring in a new team which will take charge of this Society and carry
it to greater heights.
Lastly I would like to place on record my gratitude to all the members of the Executive Committee who have supported
me unhesitatingly in all the activities of our Society. I would also like to thank each one of you for the unstinting support
and faith that you have reposed in me for the last three years. It has been not only a pleasure but also a privilege to be
given this opportunity to serve the 'Society'.
Best wishes
Dr VP Singh
Secretary, Neurological Society of India
