Introduction

�Flight Inspection is as old as radionavigation systems exist

�Before, Flight Inspection role was to verify the compliance of the radionavigation signals with ICAO Annex 10 SARPS

�Now, with PBN implementation, Flight Inspection needs also to ensure that RNAV paths are correctly defined before publication.

DME/DME Infrastructure assessment

First step :

Conduct simulation with a dedicated software in the office

Second step :A flight inspection couldbe decided to assessDME coverage

Objective : Limit the flight inspection hours

Determination of DME pairs and calculation of RNAV 1 parameters (accuracy, continuity)

GNSS L1 Interference detection

Rhode & Schwarz EB 200 Receiver.

Dedicated Software to record L1 Band.

Flight Inspection will check GNSS performances when flying the procedurebut it does not garantee that performances are always met over time.

Compliance to ICAO SARPS are ensured by ground recordings.

RNAV Verification

� Verification on the ground :

Waypoints / Segments / Distance / Alignments are verified accordingto existing airport ground references.

� Verification during flight inspection :

Using FMS, the pilot follows all the segments of the procedure and compares both with chart and external environment

� Chart publication includes :

• the chart & the RNAV

RNAV Verification

� For LPVprocedure, the final approach segment data block (FAS DB) needs also to bepublished

�As it is a critical data, flight inspection conducts the following tasks :

�On the ground:

Check FAS DB content (decode and check with airport references)

�During flight :

Taxi on the axis

Fly the procedure in the axe (compute TCH, angle, axis)

Fly the sector (evaluate course width)
