At Brevard Achievement Center (BAC), we’ve never rested on our laurels. From the day we opened in 1968 to today, BAC’s Board and leadership consistently strives to find new and innovative ways to serve individuals with disabilities. And fiscal year 2015* was no different.

BAC is proud that its programs and services assisted approximately 1,390 people with disabilities in obtaining employment, not only in Brevard County, but throughout Central Florida, the Panhandle, Puerto Rico and Virginia. This dedication to sustaining meaningful employment also resulted in the creation of a new program in 2015 by the Habilitation and Employment Services departments called the Industry Readiness Training (IRT) program. This program gives individuals with disabilities the opportunity to obtain and sustain employment at the highest level achievable through structured, comprehensive and multi-disciplinary training. IRT is supported by the newly-formed Industry Advisory Council, consisting of employers from these industries. IRT received a big boost in September as net proceeds from BAC’s inaugural “Dinner in the Dark” event were allocated to the program – an event that raised approximately $60,500 in cash sponsorships.

Our first Teriyaki Madness location opened in Orlando’s Colonial Plaza on July 31. Its Asian-inspired menu is already attracting a cult following (some patrons even eat there every day!). This creative way of helping people with disabilities has resonated with Orlando diners. Customers are excited over the fact that we employ people with disabilities and that 100% of net proceeds go back to BAC.

As we continue to explore even more ways for fiscal self-reliance, our bread and butter remains securing federal contracts. This year BAC spread its reach even further winning a contract at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. Federal and commercial contracts provided employment to 672 adults with disabilities in FY15 thanks to the addition of this contract.

As we look to the future, we will continue to research innovative ways to fulfill our mission and assist more individuals with disabilities in achieving personal success. And we know with your support, we will be successful.

Thank you for investing in the future of those we serve.

• Obtained the Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) and CIMS Green Building with Honors (CIMS-GB with Honors) certification from ISSA, the Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association, for excellence in custodial services operations.

• Won a five-year, $8.2 million contract at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia to provide all commissary operations for the base. Sixty-five associates perform warehousing, shelf-stocking and custodial duties for 97,000 square feet of space.

• Began providing service-scape enhancements to exterior areas of Wuesthoff Medical Center in Rockledge.

• Selected an associate from Patrick Air Force Base’s (PAFB) Riverside Dining facility to advocate for people with disabilities in Washington, D.C. during SourceAmerica’s Grassroots Advocacy Campaign. This individual was chosen because he exemplifies what it means to achieve personal success since he successfully transitioned from the Adult Day Training (ADT) program to employment at PAFB due to his hard work and determination.

THE PRODUCTION CENTERStaffed by individuals in our ADT program, the

contracted services provided to businesses and state agencies that utilize BAC’s Production Center

include: light package and kit assembly, mail fulfillment, special project work and the refurbishment

of medical-related devices. Through RESPECT of Florida, BAC also repackages and sells products like calendars, soaps, some medical supplies, as well as a

variety of products in the GOJO/Purell line.

CUSTOMIZED BUSINESS SERVICESSince 1991, BAC has worked through SourceAmerica’s

AbilityOne program to provide federal sites with a variety of custom services, and now we can

perform those same duties for the private sector as well. Custodial services, dining operations

and grounds maintenance are just a few of the many specialized business services we offer.

THE SUMMER OF OUR FISCAL YEAR USHERED IN A NEW ERA AT THE AGENCY - THE FIRST TERIYAKI

MADNESS FRANCHISE TO OPEN UNDER BREVARD ACHIEVEMENT CENTER FRANCHISE, LLC, A

WHOLLY-OWNED SUBSIDIARY OF BAC.

Teriyaki Madness is a fast-casual Asian-inspired restaurant franchise headquartered in Denver,

Colorado that serves a fresh, healthier made-to-order menu in a modern atmosphere. BAC chose Teriyaki Madness because of its fast-casual concept, as well as its reputation as one of the “top emerging fast-casual franchises” according to QSR magazine, a trade publication for the restaurant industry.

The agency’s first franchise, which opened in Colonial Plaza located at the corner of Bumby and Colonial Drive in Orlando, was the first of several locations BAC will open throughout Metro Orlando and Brevard County. Each franchise will not only employ people with disabilities among its team, but provide a new line of revenue for BAC since 100% of net proceeds go to support its programs and services.

A second Metro Orlando location opened in the Crosslands shopping plaza near the Hunter’s Creak area of east Orlando during the first quarter of FY16. BAC’s inaugural Brevard County location will open in FY16 as well.

Read more about Teriyaki Madness and check out its menu offerings at teriyakimadness.com, or visit our Teriyaki Madness-Orlando Facebook page at facebook.com/TMad026.

T hanks to the event’s Presenting Sponsors, Southern Janitor and Fred and Jeanette Pitten, as well

as its other many supporters, “Dinner in the Dark” raised $60,500 in cash sponsorships net proceeds of which benefitted the IRT program. In addition, the IRT program received a $5,000 grant from the PNC Foundation in October.

“Although a client in our day program has more significant disabilities, he or she might have the potential to work in the community with the right training,” said Robert Gramolini vice president of Employment Services. “Thus, the focus of the IRT program is to provide in-house job skills training to those with more significant disabilities to give them a better chance of being able to transition into community employment.”

Event proceeds and the PNC grant were used to purchase curriculum, as well as materials and equipment to build in-house simulated work “pods.” These miniature work stations will mimic the actual workplace setting of one of the IRT program’s focus industries which are retail, hospitality, food service and manufacturing. To ensure participants receive the right training to become more marketable in the workforce, an advisory council consisting of leaders in these industries was formed. The council consists of: Cheryl Cost, CareerSource-Brevard; Tom Charland, Harris, Inc.; Scott Ellis, Clerk of the Court; Puneet Kapur (PK), Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Palm Bay; and, Mike Klenotich, Winn Dixie-Palm Bay.
