cows on offer. Meat Friesians topped at 118p/kg from BJ & EM Yandle and
£997 from NJ Emery & Sons with others from 106p/kg. Manufacturing Friesians
also in keen demand with plainer types variable and boners easier. R & J
Stevens’ cracking Charolais cows topped at 139.50p/kg and £1169 with PW Fry
& Son’s Charolais to 139.50p/kg and £1014. Limousin to 125p/kg and £986
from I Winter, Fleckvieh to 110.50p/kg from RTJ Voizey & Partners, Brown
Swiss to 117.50p/kg from SH Lawrence & Sons, Simmental to 114.50p/kg from
AL & DM Sage & Son and Blues to 115.50p/kg from PG Apsey. Other grades
wanted with young, grazing types firmer. Bulls remain at fair levels, many

CULL EWES & RAMS (94) Max. £104 A larger entry of ewes which sold to a sharper trade on the week best to £104 twice from Eastbury Livestock and CR & SL Pople. North Country Mules to £92, Jacobs to £85. Our next store and breeding sale is on Friday 31st January we need a strong entry in order to meet the demand we are expecting! FAT PIGS The best heavies to £112 and £110 from Miss V Heal. Poker weights to £104 and £96 from J Newth. Others to £100 from JR & MJ Stokes and £90 from JC & MJ Mayo. More fat pigs wanted to meet demand.
STORE PIGS Strong stores to £66 from new vendors L White of Wimborne. 8 week old nice Pietrain x to £27 from B Winter of Salisbury. Younger Welsh weaners to £29 and £20 from P Scott of Minety.
CULL SOWS & BOARS Cull boars to £218 from M & R Luther, other boars to £146 from D Winder. Cull sows to £128 with no large sows forward this week, our next sale is Wednesday 29th January.
STIRKS (59) AUCTIONEER: CHARLIE COLEMAN 07494 588013 Once again continued support for our weaned calf section with good numbers forward for an extra weekly sale. Top price today for a super pen of 6mo Blue steers from Peter Hunt & family which flew to £515 with his heifers to £405. Other notable prices were his super Angus steers to £502 and Friesians to £215. Another tidy run from Nunton Farm of Salisbury met support again to have Hereford steers to £215 and heifers to £188, which looked well sold for younger sorts. A good young run of Angus from the Preston family of Evershot found good competition to see steers to £318. Similarly tidy sorts from Brian Winter of Salisbury sold well with Angus steers to £305. Fresh Limousins from the Bond family also found good support for beef breeds. We are having our fortnightly weaned calf sale next week – Wednesday 22nd January and again we have a strong entry building for an extra sale on Wednesday 29th January, for all information please contact Charlie Coleman – 07494 588013.

CALVED HEIFERS TO £1910 CALVED COWS TO £1920 The New Year has certainly started with a bang in the Dairy Section. Close to 200 head penned for sale this week which saw our normal commercial entry plus our 1st dispersal of the February calving portion of cross bred New Zealand style cows and heifers from Manor Farm, Castle Cary. The commercial section saw another consignment of outstanding calved heifers, cows and in calf cows from the Bennett family, their freshly calved “Delta Wifi” sired Holstein heifers topped at £1910 and Ayrshire Friesian calved heifers to £1820. “Image” sired 5th lactation cows produced excellent bidding and sold to a tremendous £1750. 2nd lactation “Windstar Red” daughters to £1920. The 155 cross bred cows & heifers from Manor Farm, Catle Cary were all eagerly sought and bidders were in attendance from Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Chesire. Trade was very lively with 85 cows averaging £1106 and 70 heifers averaging £864. 37 cows sold in excess of £1200 with top spot at a superb £1580. Next week 2nd portion of 140 March/April calving cross bred cows & heifers at 11am.

CALVES (172) Starts 10.00am AUCTIONEERS: TIM HECTOR 07818 056 049 CHARLIE COLEMAN: 07494 588 013 A similar number and trade on the week with best sorts dearly sought but in short supply, medium and smaller sorts saw a more selective trade.
CONTINENTAL BULLS TO £415/HEIFERS TO £182 Best calves in very short supply and sold to a flying trade led by a super young Blue from RTJ Voizey sold to an amazing £415! Other best sorts to £300, £295 and lots of medium sorts saw a selective trade where quality was lacking most £120 - £200. Mainly Blue heifers forward and plenty of demand for all on offer, not enough first quality through the ring but well fleshed medium sorts sold to £182, £168, £162, lots of heifers £120 - £170.
NATIVE BULLS TO £190/NATIVE HEIFERS TO £138 Always a well-supported section but first quality in very short supply, a lot of small plain calves on offer which were harder to place. Best Angus bulls to £190, heifers to £138, Hereford bulls to £190 and heifers to £85.
FRIESIAN TO £98 Very few forward but best rearing types wanted to £98, there was mainly
smaller sorts on offer.

CONTINENTAL A good day to be selling stores with a very lively trade throughout. 15mo out wintered Simmental x steers easily to £860 from E & R Hawkins. Dairy x Simmental steers and heifers 6 – 8mo from RJ & DC Hannam & Son created furious bidding and were wanted by everyone; their steers peaked at £545 and heifers sold to an excellent £558. Robert Bull once again producing quality Blue x single suckled steers and heifers 8 – 10mo topped at £800 and for the best conformation heifers and steers to a strong £870! Neil & Sharon Glover seeing keen competition throughout; their 8mo Limousin and Charolais steers over £740 and topped at £750. A super consignment of home bred Limousin quality cattle from regular vendors PJ & A Boulton were well sold. Best steers to £925 and plenty £720 - £700; heifers from the same home achieved £712. Older Continentals in scarce supply and more could have been easily sold. Philliols Farm presented excellent cattle with 17mo Limousin steers to £1030! Older Dairy types again from the Hannam’s saw their Simmental x steer 18mo to £870 and heifers to £800.
HEREFORD Over 90 on offer sold to a keen trade with fast bidding forcing prices beyond expectations. Well presented yearling steers set the trade selling from £620 from Will Rossiter to £640 from A Wadman. Well reared feeding steers sold from £685 from RJ Vincent & Sons, £688 (16mo) to £690 (18mo) all from Robert Gulliford and his forward steers sold to £800. Top honour of the day goes to R Dix with their pen of best quality steers selling to £1065 (only 22mo). Younger heifers wanted and sold to £565 (13mo) from Will Rossiter. Bulling heifers regularly selling from £640 from AT Barnes & Son, £675 - £695 (21-24mo) from Evershot Farms Ltd and £690 from Philliols Farm Ltd. Fleshed heifers met an excellent trade selling from £775 (22mo) from Tina Pavery T/A Highgrove Farm to £790 (21mo) from HME Gulliford.
ANGUS Over 100 on offer met an outstanding trade with demand still outstripping
supply. Vendors were rewarded for selling early season with yearling+ steers to
a strong £775 from KJ & R Hickery and their 16mo steers sold well to £900.
Forward, framed feeders wanted and met a fast trade with 21mo to £950 from
both Richard & Alan Hannam and AT Barnes & Son. More forward steers are
being presented younger which is paying off as 23mo+ steers sold from £990
from P & R Kimber, £1000 from RDR Stevens & Son and £972 - £1045 from KA
& J Hames. Mainly 20mo+ heifers on offer equally sold well to a fast trade with
younger bulling potential heifers regularly selling from £750 from Charlie Slater
T/A WN Chick & Sons to £778 from Rob & Carolyn Gibbs. Fleshed heifers
sought after selling to £842 from LP Norman & Sons, £830 - £888 from P & R
Kimber and topped at £900 from AT Barnes & Son.
FRIESIANS A smaller entry of Friesians forward with stronger finishing types to £762 from
Rob & Carolyn Gibbs and £700 from Bernard Kane from Alderholt. Smaller
types to £450 from Evershot Farms.
