Epiphany Celebration

Next Sunday, Jan 7th, our Children’s Church chil-dren will be presenting 2 songs after communion in celebration of the Epiphany. Please make sure and stay to help show them your love and support.

More than $35,000 has been received for debt reduc-tion and contributions are still being received. THANK YOU! This week the parish will make a payment of $30,000 against our loan's principal. In January a sec-ond principal payment will be made with the remaining contributions. Your generosity will have an immediate effect on our financial standing. The reduction in debt will support improvements to our church and allow us to expand our religious edu-cation programs and ministries. Blessed Sacrament’s application for the construction of changes to the floor plan of the church, as outlined during the Living Our Mission campaign, is pending diocesan approval as the new Bishop must be installed and councils ap-pointed. Your contributions demonstrate that Blessed Sacrament has the financial resources for that con-struction. Again, THANK YOU.

Shenandoah Women’s Healthcare

TRIP TO HAITI You are invited to make a Lenten trip to our twin parish on the Haitian island of La Gonave in February. Our Haiti Min-istry is assembling a team of Blessed Sacrament parish-ioners who will spend a week getting to know and accom-panying the members of our twin parish and their commu-nity. Our team is forming now, so please contact David Fritz at [email protected] or 540-255-9973

We’re putting the “FUN” in “FUNdraising”!! Plans are underway for a parish “Mardi Gras” celebration on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018. “Dinner & Dixie” in Johnston Hall will include New Orleans style favorites such as gumbo, jambalaya, grits, and of course, beignets, with live Dixieland Jazz. There will be fun activi-ties for the kids too, so there is something for everyone. We’ll parade into church after dinner for a “Songs for the Soul” concert featuring many of our own musicians. The program will include jazz, spirituals, gospel tunes, favorite hymns, and all the “Hallelujahs” we can sing before pack-ing them away for Lent. We need volunteers to lead and serve on a variety of committees (Food & Beverage, En-tertainment, Facilities, Decorations, Publicity, etc.) Our first meeting will be held in early January, and you are interested, please contact Janet Edmondson at: [email protected] .

“Parishioners, students and educators hoping to participate in the joy and excitement of the Jan. 12 Mass of Installation for the Catholic Diocese of Richmond’s new Bishop Barry C. Knestout now have a chance to secure admission to the special Mass by entering a lottery. Seating for the 2 p.m. event at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart will be extremely limited so the faithful are encouraged to enter the drawing for admission tickets by com-pleting the online form here: http://richmonddiocese.org/installation-mass-details/ The last day to enter the drawing is Friday, December 29, 2017. The drawing will be held in early January with two tickets award-ed to each selected registrant. Those selected will have 48 hours to respond before the tickets are released to alternates. Tickets are not transferrable and may not be sold. Questions? Contact [email protected] or (804) 622-5294.”

From the Diocese on the installation Mass for our new Bishop:

Please note that due to the limited availability of seating, if you win tickets in the lottery, you will have to provide your own trans-portation. While we wish it were possible for everyone who wish-es to, to attend, it’s not possible as the Cathedral can only hold a finite number of people.

HAITI MINISTRY NEWS

THANK YOU SO MUCH! To all who helped provide nutritious lunches for the children at St. Bernadette’s School on La Gonave by purchasing our Haiti gift cards. In many cases, this may be the only meal, or only nutritious meal, the children get on school days.
