with specifications and manufacturer's instructions. 2.2 FITTINGS AND ACCESSORIES

A. Unions: 2-1/2" and larger, 250 psi SWP, black steel forged slip-on or weld neck.

B. Globe Valves: 125 psi SWP, all bronze, screwed, 2" and smaller, rising stem, union bonnet.

C. Ball Valves: 1/4" through 2", 250# WOG, bronze, buna-n seats and seals, screwed ends.

D. Butterfly Valves: Lug type, 150 psi, bubbletight, mechanite or ductile iron body with alignment lugs, aluminum-bronze disc, 304 stainless steel stem with bronze bushings. EPDM Nordel, hard-backed replaceable seat, 300`F. Continuously adjustable handle on valves 2-1/2" through 4", totally enclosed gear operator and handwheel on valves 5" and larger. Stem length to clear 2" insulation.

E. Check Valves: 2" and smaller, 125 psi SWP, bronze body and cap, screwed horizontal lift check

with composition disc; 2-1/2" and larger, iron body, aluminum-bronze plates, 316 stainless steel shaft and spring butterfly type Nordel seats.

F. Plug Valves: 2" and smaller, 150 psi SWP, semi-steel body, screwed, lubricated tapered plug,

100% port area.

G. Strainer: Y-type, 125 psi SWP, gray cast iron, bronze monel or stainless steel perforations as recommended by manufacturer for size and service intended, 3/4" blow-off gate valve.

H. Automatic Air Vents: Cast iron, 125 psi, accessible with manual vent.

I. Thermometers: 8" scale, cast case, red reading industrial, universal joint, concealed capillary.

Sealed well to be half pipe diameter in length.

J. Pressure Gauges: 4" round, cast case, 1/2% accuracy. Provide gauge range with operating point in middle half of scale and compound range for gauges subject to subatmospheric pressures.

K. Pressure Gauge Cocks: Crane 222H, sliding block, 2000 psi.

L. Flexible Piping Connectors: Stainless steel braided hose assemblies. Braid shall be terminated

with a stainless collar and fully restrain the unit at operating pressures. End connections 2" and

smaller shall be threaded, 2-1/2" and larger shall be carbon steel plate flanges. The manufacturer's name shall be affixed to each unit.

M. Expansion Joints and Compensators: Expansion compensators for steel pipe 1/2" through 2-1/2"

shall be multiple stainless steel bellows, externally pressurized with carrier in steel shroud, anti-torque limit and stop. MPT 1/2" through 2", threaded flange for size 1/2", flexible, Model H or equal.

N. Expansion Joints:

1. For steel pipe 3" and larger use Flexonics controlled flexing expansion joints with stainless

steel bellows and stainless steel liner, nickel-steel neck and control rings, plate steel flanges, 150 psi working pressure, and axial traverse as indicated or as required. Provide minimum of 2 pipe guides on expansion side of all joints.

2. Expansion joints shall be installed in strict accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations with full allowance made for contraction of joint when pipe line reaches its minimum cold temperature. Each expansion joint and pipe run shall be anchored as required for proper pipe. Pipe guides and expansion joint and pipe shall be anchored as required for proper pipe, pipe guides and expansion joint supports. All anchors shall be approved before installation. Submit anchors and pipe guides for approval before installation. Guides shall be Flexonics, type 790 or equal. Anchor all piping as detailed or as required for proper pipe, pipe guide and expansion joint support.

O. Balance Valves: 2" and smaller, 125 psi, brass screwed, stainless wafer; 2-1/2" and larger, positive

shutoff, non-rising stem, integral pointer.

P. Dielectric Nipples or Couplings: Provide dielectric nipples or couplings at all points where copper or brass pipe or equipment is joined to ferrous pipe and equipment. This requirement does not apply to brass valves in steel lines, or to iron valves in copper lines. No dielectric unions are acceptable.

PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 INSTALLATION

A. Run parallel to building lines. "Cocking" not permitted.

B. Provide sleeves through walls and floors with polished chrome-plated split ring escutcheons on exposed pipe. Seal around pipe in sleeve with silicone sealant.

C. Clean pipe and fittings of scale and dirt. Ream ends of threaded pipe, cut threads to full depth of

die, apply dope to male threads only immediately before connections.

D. Certified welders only.

E. Pitch pipe to drain free of sags. Provide drain gate valve at all low points with hose end or pipe to

floor sink. Refer to 15030 3.3 B.

F. Provide automatic air vent with 1/4" IPS drain to waste at all high points.

G. Provide offsets, anchors and swing joints as necessary to permit expansion and contraction without damage to piping or equipment.

H. At Contractor's option, Weld-O-Let or Thread-O-Let type of fittings may be used in lieu of tees for

branch connections provided the main is 2 sizes larger than the takeoff. Couplings or half couplings are not acceptable except for non-flow connections such as thermometers or gauges. Where shown, 45` lateral fittings may be cut and welded directly into mains.

I. Hangers and Supports: Refer to Section 15030 and 15080 for pipe hanging and support

requirements. 3.2 INSPECTION AND TEST

A. Make tests before the work is covered. The system may be tested in parts if approved.

B. When tests or inspections show the work is in any way defective, remove material or equipment from the premises.

C. Make the water piping tests on all piping as required with a 150 psi hydrostatic pressure test for 4

hours or a greater pressure if required by code. Flush all lines per Section 15180. Contractor shall notify Architect one week in advance of system flush so that procedure can be witnessed.
